Agartala witnessed a historic event as hundreds of Buddhist devotees gathered at the Buddha Vihara Temple for the inaugural Maha Kathina Chivara Dana ceremony.

The head monk of the temple, Ven. Khemachara, invited the public to join the festival, expressing pride in celebrating this event in Agartala for the first time.

The head monk of the temple, Ven. Khemachara, extended a warm invitation to the public to join the festivities, emphasising the historic nature of the occasion. He expressed pride in celebrating the Maha Kathina Chivara Dana ceremony for the first time in Agartala.

The Kathina Civara Dana, also known as the “robe offering ceremony,” is a vital festival for Buddhist devotees. During this event, various items, including new robes for monks, are donated, signifying the renewal of requisites and a way to support monks in their spiritual pursuits.

One devotee explained, “After the rainy season, the robes that monks wear get worn out. So, it is our duty as Buddhists to offer them new robes and new requisites for them to be able to get on with their lives normally and meditate.”
