New Delhi/UNI: Congress on Saturday said BJP-led government in Manipur has completely failed to control the situation in the state.

The party also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should break his silence on Manipur situation, besides meeting leaders of 10 like-minded Opposition parties from the Northeastern state, who are in the national capital to meet him on the same.

It has been over 40 days. PM Narendra Modi is yet to break his silence. No statement or appeal. He should make an appeal so that peace restores in Manipur, Congress general secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said at a joint press conference of the leaders of 10 political parties from Manipur, organised at the party headquarters.

The state government has completely failed, he alleged.

They have been waiting since the last three days and are hopeful that the PM will meet them.

They will give a memorandum and would also apprise what more steps need to be taken (in Manipur), said the Congress MP in an apparent reference to the appointment sought by the Opposition leaders to meet the PM.

Echoing a similar sentiment, former Manipur Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh said, Since May 3, Manipur has been burning. There is a hue and cry everywhere. The PM has not yet expressed anything on the Manipur situation.

We are not here to politicise or take political advantage. We want peace, he said.
