Opposition Left Front on Wednesday announced its candidates’ list for the Urban Locan Bodies  and began submitting nominations on the first day itself. The public notification of the election to the ULBs was issued on Wednesday itself. According to reports Left Front candidates submitted nominations for the polls in AMC, Sonamura Nagar Panchayat and Belonia Municipal Council..

An ICA press release said, for the polls to AMC, total 44 nominations were received. Out of this, CPM filed 39 nominations while three candidates of CPI and two candidates of RSP submitted the nominations papers before the SDM Sadar today.

Earlier on the day, West district secretary of CPM, Ratan Das flanked by Left Front leaders announced the partial list of 35 candidates for 51-seat AMC in Agartala today.

Urging people to vote for the Left candidates, candidates accompanied by party supporters held a rally in the city prior to nomination submission.   All of the 35 Left Candidates submitted nominations to Sadar SDM in Agartala today.

Among the Left Front constituents, CPM fielded candidates in 29 seats out of 35 seats for which candidates were announced today. Ratan Das said the remaining six seats were distributed among CPI (3), RSP (2) and Forward Bloc (1).

Speaking to the media, Das also said names for the remaining 16 seats could not be announced today due to a delay in furnishing required documents by the concerned candidates. He said that the Left Front would announce names for the remaining 16 seats soon.

Notably, the nomination filing process for the Civic Poll started from today and will continue till November 3 next.

Our Sonamura correspondent adds: CPM candidates also submitted nominations papers for Sonamura Nagar Panchayat.

In contrast to its tradition, CPM candidates filed nominations without any decorated rally and high-pitch slogans. As many as 10 Left candidates submitted nominations for 13-seat Sonamura Nagar Panchayat. CPM party sources said, names for three Wards will be soon announced.

Our Belonia correspondent adds: CPM supporters along with the party candidates for the civic body poll submitted nominations before the SDM of Belonia on Wednesday.

Leftists today submitted the nomination of candidates for three wards out of 17 wards. CPM leaders asserted that the party would contest in all the 17 seats and the remaining candidates would soon file nominations.

Like Sonamura, CPM in Belonia also avoided holding rallies prior to nomination submission.
