Tripura police also requested people of all communities not to support and subscribe to such fake IDs and do not spread such fake pictyures. We have already registered cases and legal actions will be taken against all those spreading fake news and communally sensitive rumours”.

In the meantime, simmering communal tension swept some areas of North Tripura and Unakoti districts as some miscreants- belonging to both majority and minority groups resorted to provocative overtures. ‘The situation is under control’, said senior policed officials but reports reaching here indicated a lull had descended in the areas unsettled by protracted flare ups. While for the last few days tensions were palpable and adequate security measures were made last night a fake news spread that attacks was committed on a religious place in North Tripura. It was rumoured that many a shop and vehicle were vandalised.

The unrest reportedly began at Cham Tilla area in Panisagar on Tuesday followed by a rally of Viswa Hindu Parishad. Rumours were also spread that a few local shops were set ablaze at Rowa Bazar. A group of miscreants were also reported to have thrown stones at a mosque in Chamtilla area. In Churaibari, multiple shops were also reported to have been first attacked at Railway Tri-Junction and then two vehicles owned by one Swarup Saha were vandalized. They then left the spot. Now, another group gathered at the spot and attacked some other shops.

In the meantime, Addl. SP (North Tripura) Francis Darlong, SDPO Kanta Jahangir and OC Churaibari along with adequate police personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

There were also reports of similar tension in some parts of Kailasahar .  Sources in the police in Unakoti district also claimed that adequate security measures were taken and situation was well under control.

Apart from deployment of adequate security personnel and night police patrolling, the sub-divisional administration also imposed a prohibitory order under section 144 to defuse the tension. The administration has appealed to all for maintaining peace and harmony.

According to the last information came in, security was beefed up and police protection was provided to all mosques in the North Tripura district.

Meanwhile, the opposition CPM condemned the incident.
