Gomati district police have initiated departmental proceedings against two Tripura constables over unauthorised absence from duty. The action follows reports of an alleged late-night incident in the Ompi area, prompting an official clarification from the police department.
Gomati district police have initiated departmental proceedings against two constables after they were found absent from their assigned duties without authorisation, following reports of an alleged late-night incident in the Ompi area that surfaced on social media on October 25.
The two police personnel have been identified as Constable Priyatosh Rudra Paul, posted at Kakraban Police Station, and Women Constable Dukmali Debbarma, posted at RK Pur Women Police Station. According to an official statement issued by Gomati district police, both personnel were marked absent from their respective duties after failing to report as assigned.
The police clarification stated that Priyatosh Rudra Paul had been detailed for night duty at Kakraban Police Station on October 24. Women Constable Dukmali Debbarma, meanwhile, had been assigned first standby duty.
Reports received from the police stations concerned established that Priyatosh had remained absent from his scheduled night duty without obtaining prior permission or informing the competent authority. The department subsequently recorded the unauthorised absence and initiated appropriate departmental proceedings against the personnel concerned.
The action comes amid social media reports about an alleged incident in the Ompi area late at night. According to those reports, the two constables were found together inside a vehicle. The situation reportedly escalated after the wife of the male constable arrived at the spot and allegedly found the two in a compromising situation.
However, the police department’s official statement focused on the unauthorised absence from duty and clarified the circumstances relating to their official assignments at the time of the reported incident.
According to the clarification, neither constable was performing official duty when the alleged incident occurred. The statement also noted that neither was wearing a police uniform at the time.
The departmental action highlights the police administration’s response to the reported absence of personnel from assigned responsibilities. Police personnel are expected to report for duty according to their designated schedules and follow departmental procedures when seeking permission to remain absent.

The incident has drawn attention following its circulation on social media, while the official clarification has established that the immediate departmental action concerns the constables’ failure to attend their assigned duties without prior authorisation.
The Gomati district police have confirmed that appropriate proceedings have been initiated against both personnel in connection with the matter.
