Tripura BJP staged a protest outside Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala over alleged derogatory remarks by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father, with party leaders criticising opposition politics and calling for national unity.

The Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a protest in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala to condemn alleged derogatory remarks made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father.

The protest brought together BJP leaders and party workers, who criticised the Congress over the alleged comments and called for greater responsibility in political discourse. Party representatives maintained that political disagreements should not extend to personal attacks against political leaders or their family members.

Addressing the gathering, Tripura Pradesh BJP General Secretary Bhagaban Das alleged that the remarks reflected frustration among opposition leaders who, according to him, were struggling to regain public support. He also urged BJP workers to remain vigilant against what he described as attempts to undermine the country’s peace, unity, cultural values and economic progress.

“Every BJP worker must remain alert and keep their eyes and ears open,” Das said, alleging that certain opposition groups were working together against the BJP-led government.

Das further criticised the political understanding between the Congress and Left parties, accusing opposition leaders of pursuing strategies aimed at challenging the BJP politically. He also described the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as an offshoot of political forces opposed to the BJP.

Referring to protests in Delhi, the BJP general secretary alleged that some participants were drawing inspiration from political developments in Bangladesh and advocating disruptive activities in India. These statements formed part of the party’s broader criticism of opposition activities and their political approach.

BJP leaders at the gathering also criticised the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), over their political positions. They accused the opposition parties of engaging in divisive politics and argued that political differences should be expressed through constructive debate rather than personal remarks.

The protest was held as an expression of the Tripura Pradesh BJP’s opposition to the alleged comments attributed to Kharge. Party representatives reiterated their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called upon party workers to remain united in defending the government’s policies and political position.

Among those present at the demonstration were Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Sadar Town District BJP president Asim Bhattacharya, presidents of seven mandals and several other party workers.

The gathering concluded with BJP leaders reiterating their criticism of the Congress and other opposition parties. They stressed the importance of maintaining political decorum and avoiding statements that could be viewed as personal attacks on public figures and their families.

The protest in Agartala reflects the continuing political exchanges between the BJP and opposition parties, with the Tripura unit using the demonstration to register its objection to the alleged remarks and reaffirm its emphasis on national unity and political accountability.
