Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy chaired the State Advisory Board meeting in Agartala to discuss minimum wage revision, labour law implementation, workers’ rights, social security and welfare measures aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the state’s workforce.

Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Monday chaired an important meeting of the State Advisory Board at the Labour Directorate office on Office Lane in Agartala, focusing on minimum wage fixation and revision, workers’ rights, labour law implementation and welfare measures to improve the socio-economic conditions of the state’s workforce.

The meeting brought together MLA Abhishek Debroy, members of the State Advisory Board and senior officials associated with the Labour Department. Discussions centred on providing recommendations to the state government on wage policies, workers’ entitlements and the effective implementation of labour laws and labour codes.

According to the minister, the State Advisory Board plays an important advisory role in helping the government address labour-related issues, particularly those concerning minimum wages, workers’ welfare and the protection of labour rights.

Addressing the meeting, Roy emphasised that safeguarding the dignity, rights and interests of workers remains a key priority. He said coordinated efforts were necessary to ensure that labourers across different sectors receive fair treatment, appropriate wages and access to welfare measures that can improve their living standards.

The discussions examined various aspects of minimum wage determination and periodic revision, with a focus on ensuring that wage policies adequately address workers’ needs. The board also considered matters related to workers’ entitlements and the implementation of relevant provisions under existing labour laws and labour codes.

The meeting highlighted the importance of maintaining a fair and balanced working environment while protecting the legitimate interests of both workers and employers. Participants discussed the need to strengthen labour administration and improve enforcement mechanisms to ensure that workers receive the protections and benefits available under applicable laws.

Social security and labour welfare measures also featured prominently in the deliberations. Members stressed the importance of ensuring that government policies and welfare schemes reach eligible workers effectively, particularly those whose livelihoods depend on daily wages and employment in different sectors.

The board’s recommendations are expected to assist the state government in reviewing labour policies and considering appropriate measures concerning wage revision, workplace protections and workers’ socio-economic development. However, the meeting itself did not establish any specific revised minimum wage rates.

MLA Abhishek Debroy also highlighted the importance of periodically reviewing minimum wages to reflect workers’ requirements and protect their legitimate rights. He stressed that effective implementation of labour codes and welfare provisions was essential to improving conditions for the working population.

The participants further discussed the need for collective action by the government, labour administration and other stakeholders to address challenges faced by workers. Effective enforcement of labour regulations, improved access to social security and greater awareness of workers’ entitlements were identified as important aspects of labour welfare.

The meeting provided a platform for board members and government representatives to examine key labour-related concerns and offer suggestions for future policy decisions. The recommendations emerging from the discussions are expected to help guide the state government’s approach towards minimum wage fixation and revision, labour welfare initiatives and stronger protection of workers’ rights.

Roy reiterated the government’s objective of improving the quality of life of labourers while promoting fairness and dignity in the workplace. The discussions also underlined the importance of balancing workers’ welfare with a stable and equitable working environment across Tripura.

The meeting reflects the state administration’s continued engagement with labour-related issues, with minimum wage policy, social security and effective implementation of labour laws remaining central to efforts to improve the welfare of the workforce.
