India finished the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with a record 114 medals, including 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze. Flag-bearers Mona Agarwal and Nishad Kumar led the contingent after a historic campaign across multiple sports.

India concluded its campaign at the Asian Para Games 2026 with a record-breaking haul of 114 medals as the Indian contingent marched with the national flag during the closing ceremony at Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium in Nagoya, Japan, on Saturday. Double gold medallists para-shooter Mona Agarwal and athlete Nishad Kumar led the contingent as co-flag-bearers, marking the end of India’s most successful campaign at the continental para-sports event.

India finished with 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals, surpassing its previous best tally of 108 medals at the 2022 edition in Hangzhou, China. The earlier edition’s final tally was revised following the revocation of three medals linked to doping violations. The 2026 achievement was particularly significant because India fielded 168 para-athletes, compared with 309 athletes at Hangzhou.

The Indian team delivered impressive performances across para-athletics, para-badminton, para-archery, para-shooting, table tennis and swimming, demonstrating its competitiveness across multiple disciplines.

Para-badminton emerged as one of India’s major medal-winning sports. Paralympic champion Nitesh Kumar defeated reigning world champion Pramod Bhagat 21-18, 21-16 in the men’s singles SL3 final to claim gold, ensuring an all-Indian podium. Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manasi Girishchandra Joshi won the women’s doubles SL3-SU5 gold medal after defeating China’s Qiuxia Yang and Zuxian Xiao 21-16, 21-13. Thulasimathi also secured silver in women’s singles SU5, while Nithya Sre Sumathy Sivan won silver in women’s singles SH6.

India also recorded a historic achievement in para-archery. Harvinder Singh and debutant Vijay Sundi won gold in men’s recurve doubles, while Pooja Jatyan and Bhawna Choudhary claimed silver in women’s recurve doubles, securing India’s first medal in that event at the Asian Para Games.

Para-athletics remained the largest contributor to India’s medal tally, producing several record-breaking performances. Haney set a world record of 60.49 metres in the men’s javelin throw F37/38 competition, winning gold in the T37 category. Debutant Sandeep claimed gold in the men’s 400m T64 with a time of 52.28 seconds, setting a world record in the T44 category. He also won bronze in the men’s 100m T44, clocking 11.67 seconds.

India achieved a podium sweep in the men’s javelin throw F42-F44/F61-F64 final. Sumit won gold in the T64 category with a throw of 72.46 metres, scoring 1,112 points. Mahendra Gurjar secured silver in T42 with a Games-record effort of 59.03 metres, while Sandip Sanjay Sargar took bronze in T44 with a Games-record throw of 64.48 metres.

Pranav Soorma won gold in the men’s club throw F51 with a Games-record distance of 32.87 metres, while Dharambir claimed bronze. Navdeep Singh added bronze in the men’s javelin throw F40/41, and Rakeshbhai Bhatt secured bronze in the men’s 200m T37.

In para-shooting, co-flag-bearer Mona Agarwal capped her campaign with gold in the women’s 50m rifle three positions SH1 event, scoring 357.5 points to set world and Asian Para Games records. She also became the first Indian para-shooter to win a medal in this event at the Games.

India’s para-table tennis contingent added a bronze medal through Jehan Dorab Madan and Shubham Wadhwa in men’s doubles Class MD4. At 50, Madan became the oldest Indian medallist at the competition. Para-swimmer Himanshu Nandal secured bronze in the men’s 100m freestyle S11, finishing in 1:05.90 and taking his overall medal tally at the Games to three bronze medals.

According to the final reported medal breakdown, para-athletics contributed 65 medals, including 22 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze. Para-badminton added 16 medals, while para-swimming contributed 11. India also secured medals in para-archery, para-shooting, para-table tennis and other disciplines.

India’s record 114-medal finish in Aichi-Nagoya marks a significant milestone for the country’s para-sports movement. The performances of athletes across disciplines, alongside the record-setting achievements of individual competitors, provided a strong conclusion to India’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Para Games. The next edition of the continental competition is scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar, in 2030.
