Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said police apprehended 25 suspected illegal infiltrators attempting to enter India and returned them to their place of origin. The operation highlights continued border surveillance and coordination between Assam Police and the BSF.

Assam Police apprehended 25 suspected illegal infiltrators who were allegedly attempting to enter India through the international border and returned them to their place of origin, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday. The Chief Minister praised the police for the operation and reiterated the state government’s commitment to preventing unauthorised cross-border entry.

In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma said the individuals were apprehended while allegedly attempting to cross into India. He credited Assam Police personnel for the operation and highlighted the continued vigilance maintained by the state police in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF).

“In a happy hunting by the boys of @assampolice last night, 25 illegal infiltrators who were trying to cross over to India were apprehended red handed and turned back to their origin,” the Chief Minister wrote in his post.

Sarma further stated that Assam Police and the BSF remained alert along the international border, with a firm resolve to prevent unauthorised entry into the country.

However, the Chief Minister did not disclose the precise location of the operation or provide details about the identities and nationalities of the 25 individuals. Further information about the circumstances of the alleged infiltration attempt was also not shared in the post.

The latest reported operation comes amid the Assam government’s continued emphasis on border surveillance and action against suspected illegal immigration. Authorities have been conducting operations to identify individuals suspected of entering or staying in India without valid documents.

Assam shares an international border with Bangladesh, making border management and the prevention of unauthorised cross-border movement important security priorities for the state. The BSF is responsible for guarding the international border, while Assam Police conduct investigations and other operations within their jurisdiction.

Chief Minister Sarma has repeatedly stated that his government intends to prevent illegal infiltration and strengthen border vigilance. The state administration has also highlighted the importance of identifying suspected foreign nationals and following the applicable legal procedures in cases involving questions about immigration status.

In recent weeks, Assam Police have reported several operations involving people suspected of entering or residing in India without valid documentation.

In September, police detained 27 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and minors, during separate operations in Guwahati and Rangiya. According to reports, the individuals were intercepted after they allegedly failed to produce documents establishing their legal status in India. Authorities indicated that further action would be taken through the prescribed procedures.

More recently, on October 19, Sarma announced that police had apprehended 24 foreign nationals from different homestays following specific information. The Chief Minister did not disclose their nationalities or the exact locations where they were found.

These operations reflect the state government’s ongoing focus on identifying suspected illegal entrants and enforcing immigration-related regulations. However, allegations concerning an individual’s immigration status require appropriate verification and action under the applicable law.

The latest operation involving the 25 suspected infiltrators also underscores the role of coordination between Assam Police and the BSF in maintaining vigilance along the border. Effective monitoring, information sharing and timely intervention remain important elements of border security.

Sarma has reiterated that the government will continue efforts to prevent unauthorised entry into Assam. While the latest announcement did not provide further operational details, the Chief Minister’s statement highlighted the administration’s stated policy of maintaining strict surveillance along the international border and returning suspected illegal entrants to their place of origin in accordance with the applicable procedures.

The Assam government has maintained that border security and the verification of immigration status remain key priorities as authorities continue operations against suspected illegal infiltration.
