Tripura CM Manik Saha paid tribute to police personnel on Police Commemoration Day in Agartala, revealing that no Tripura Police personnel died on duty between September 2025 and August 2026, while honouring 154 security personnel who died nationwide.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Wednesday said no Tripura Police personnel had lost their lives in the line of duty between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026, while 154 police and security personnel across the country made the supreme sacrifice during the same period.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while attending the Police Commemoration Day programme at Manoranjan Debbarma Smriti Stadium in A.D. Nagar, Agartala. He paid heartfelt tributes to police personnel who had sacrificed their lives while protecting the nation and its people.
Saha said approximately 222 personnel from various units and ranks of Tripura Police had lost their lives in the line of duty over the years. Remembering their courage, dedication and selfless service, he said their sacrifices would continue to inspire future generations.
He also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased personnel, acknowledging the hardships and sacrifices endured by their relatives and colleagues. The Chief Minister said the nation must remain grateful to those who risk their lives to protect public safety and uphold the country’s security.

“Their courage, dedication and selfless service will forever remain a source of inspiration for us all,” Saha said, reiterating that the sacrifices of police personnel would always be remembered and honoured.
CM stresses police modernisation and public safety
Highlighting the importance of the police force, Saha said police personnel played a crucial role in maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and providing assistance to citizens during emergencies. He noted that public safety depended significantly on the integrity, commitment and sense of responsibility demonstrated by police personnel.
According to the Chief Minister, the responsibilities of the police extend beyond crime prevention and law enforcement. Building public trust, maintaining cordial relations with citizens, responding sensitively to people’s problems and ensuring fair and equal treatment for everyone are equally important aspects of policing.
He said the changing nature of crime had increased the need to strengthen the skills, capabilities and operational preparedness of the police force. Particular attention, he added, must be given to emerging challenges such as cybercrime, drug trafficking and offences against women and children.

Saha said the Tripura government was prioritising police modernisation, improving operational efficiency and strengthening the state’s law and order system. He expressed confidence that Tripura Police personnel would continue to perform their duties with integrity, courage, dedication and humanity.
“Our aim is to create a safe and peaceful environment for every citizen of the state and ensure prompt police assistance whenever required,” the Chief Minister said.
Police Commemoration Day recalls sacrifice at Hot Springs
Police Commemoration Day is observed across India on October 21 every year to honour police personnel who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.
During the programme, Saha recalled the events of October 21, 1959, at Hot Springs in Ladakh, where 10 police personnel were killed in an encounter with Chinese troops. The personnel were serving under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Karam Singh.
The incident became a defining moment in the history of Indian policing and led to the annual observance commemorating the sacrifices of police personnel.
The Chief Minister said the observance was an opportunity to remember the bravery of those who had protected the country’s national sovereignty, territorial integrity and public safety, often at the cost of their own lives.
He noted that the decision to observe Police Commemoration Day was taken in 1960. Since 2012, the national-level commemoration has been held at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
Saha also acknowledged the contributions of the Army, paramilitary forces, police and personnel deployed along the country’s borders, describing their roles as vital to safeguarding national security and sovereignty.
