Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has assured that steps are being taken to simplify the Indian visa process for Bangladeshi citizens during a courtesy meeting with the Indian Media Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (IMCAB).
The meeting was held at 11:30 am on Thursday (October 22) at the conference room of the Indian High Commission in Baridhara, Dhaka. A 10-member executive committee delegation led by IMCAB President Shaheen Chowdhury attended the meeting, with General Secretary Masum Billah among the participants.
During the meeting, IMCAB leaders highlighted the existing difficulties faced by Bangladeshi citizens in obtaining Indian visas, particularly the lengthy delays in securing appointment slots after submitting applications online. They also raised the issue of simplifying visa procedures for patients seeking medical treatment in India.
Responding to the delegation, the High Commissioner said, “We are looking into the problems people are facing in obtaining Indian visas. In particular, initiatives are being taken to ensure that patients wishing to travel to India for medical treatment can obtain visas more easily.”
He added that the High Commission was trying to understand why applicants were experiencing delays in securing slots to submit their applications in person after completing the online application process. He expressed optimism that the problem would be resolved soon.
Emphasising the importance of people-to-people contact between the two neighbouring countries, the High Commissioner said, “The more people travel between Bangladesh and India, the stronger the bonds of friendship and relations between the people of the two countries will become.”
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere. The High Commissioner personally exchanged greetings with each member of the IMCAB delegation and enquired about their well-being.
