East Bengal FC face Inter Kashi FC in the ISL 2026-27 at Pune’s Balewadi Stadium. Defending champions aim to extend their winning run after a 4-0 victory, while Inter Kashi seek to challenge the titleholders with confidence and determination.
Defending champions East Bengal FC will look to continue their winning start to the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 season when they take on Inter Kashi FC at Balewadi Stadium in Pune on Friday, October 23. The match will bring together two sides with a recent history, as East Bengal defeated Inter Kashi 2-1 in last season’s decisive encounter to secure their maiden ISL title. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 pm IST.
East Bengal enter the contest on the back of an impressive 4-0 victory over Churchill Brothers SC in their opening league match. The emphatic result has given the defending champions an early boost as they seek to maintain their momentum and establish themselves among the leading contenders this season.
Inter Kashi, meanwhile, will aim to produce a strong performance against the reigning champions after drawing 1-1 with Odisha FC in their previous outing. The team will be eager to turn that result into a positive outcome against one of the league’s most formidable opponents.
The previous meeting between the sides remains significant for East Bengal supporters. The Kolkata-based club secured a 2-1 victory over Inter Kashi in May 2026, with Mohammed Rashid scoring the decisive goal to deliver the club’s first ISL title. Friday’s encounter will provide Inter Kashi with an opportunity to test themselves against the champions once again.
East Bengal head coach Antonio López Habas acknowledged the importance of managing his squad carefully amid a demanding schedule involving domestic league commitments and continental competition. He indicated that some changes could be made to the starting lineup but stressed that the team would retain its competitive approach.
“We will make a few changes, but not many. We have plenty of players ready to take their chance,” Habas said.
He added that teams aiming to win trophies must be prepared to handle a busy fixture list, while expressing hope that injuries would not disrupt his plans.
Winger Bipin Singh is expected to be among the players attracting attention after delivering an outstanding performance against Churchill Brothers. Coming off the bench, he scored twice in East Bengal’s 4-0 victory, strengthening his case for a starting role in the upcoming fixture.
Bipin emphasised the importance of making the most of every opportunity, whether starting a match or coming on as a substitute. His recent performance could provide another attacking option for Habas as East Bengal look to maintain their scoring form against Inter Kashi.
Inter Kashi head coach Carlos Vaz Pinto, however, remains determined to preserve his team’s playing philosophy despite the challenges associated with limited preparation time and a relatively small squad.
“We cannot change our idea of the game because of the opponent. We believe we can win,” Vaz Pinto said, underlining his confidence ahead of the clash.
The coach also explained that squad limitations had forced tactical adjustments in the previous match against Odisha FC. Inter Kashi finished that game with four wingers because of a shortage of available midfielders. According to Vaz Pinto, his players are adapting to different positions while working to improve their fitness, understanding and coordination.
Defender Nischal Chandan echoed the coach’s confidence, saying the players had chosen to trust one another and the coaching staff despite a difficult build-up to the season. He acknowledged that the absence of foreign players could affect the team’s options but maintained that Inter Kashi could challenge East Bengal by following their tactical plan and maintaining collective discipline.

East Bengal will rely on their attacking confidence and experience, while Inter Kashi will look to combine tactical discipline with determined performances across the pitch.
