NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule has questioned how jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi could claim responsibility on social media for the firing incident targeting actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai. Police are investigating the attack, alleged conspiracy, accused suspects and possible motives.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule has questioned how a jailed gangster could claim responsibility on social media for an attack targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, demanding an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the online statement attributed to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Sule expressed concern over reports that Lawrence Bishnoi, who is lodged in jail, had taken responsibility for the firing incident through a social media post. She questioned how someone behind bars could allegedly coordinate criminal activities and publicly claim responsibility for an attack.

“I was surprised because your news channels and newspapers say that Lawrence Bishnoi is in jail. Yet, he is tweeting himself and declaring, ‘I take responsibility for this.’ It is hard to comprehend how a person inside a jail can take responsibility like this,” Sule said.

She added that the situation was confusing and said an inquiry should establish how such activities could allegedly be carried out from inside a prison. Her remarks came amid growing concerns over the alleged involvement of organised criminal networks in threats and attacks targeting members of the film industry.

The social media post claiming responsibility for the firing has not, by itself, established who ordered or organised the attack. Mumbai Police are investigating the incident and examining possible links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Tiger Shroff escapes unhurt in Mumbai firing

The incident occurred on the evening of October 18 in Mumbai’s Juhu area, when three motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire at a vehicle associated with Tiger Shroff. The actor escaped without injuries, while his driver was injured in the shooting. Reports also indicated that a passer-by sustained injuries.

According to the initial police investigation, the assailants fled after the firing, prompting Mumbai Police to launch a search operation. The case was subsequently transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch because of its seriousness.

Within hours of the incident, a video circulated on social media in which a man identifying himself as Anil Pandit and claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang took responsibility for the shooting. The message allegedly warned Shroff against working with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

Investigators are examining the authenticity of the claim and whether the people involved in the attack had direct connections with members of the gang.

Police investigate alleged planning and motive

During the investigation, police sources reportedly indicated that the suspects had practised shooting at a location near Mumbai before the attack. A misfire was also allegedly reported while they were testing a weapon in a hotel room in Andheri.

Investigators are examining reports that the attackers initially considered targeting another Bollywood celebrity but changed their plans after facing difficulties accessing the intended target. According to preliminary reports, the suspects allegedly relied on social media reels shared by Tiger Shroff’s fans to assess whether the actor had police protection at the time.

The investigation is also examining whether the firing was intended to intimidate the actor and spread fear across the film industry. These details remain subject to police verification, and the precise motive has not been conclusively established.

Multiple arrests as investigation widens

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has been questioning suspects and examining the alleged conspiracy behind the attack. Three initial suspects were arrested at Kota railway station in Rajasthan following the incident.

Subsequently, additional suspects were detained or arrested in connection with the alleged planning, weapons supply and logistical arrangements. On October 21, a Mumbai court remanded three accused to police custody until October 31. By October 22, media reports indicated that the total number of arrests had reached 10, including people suspected of providing logistical support.

Investigators are also attempting to recover the firearms allegedly used in the shooting, examine communications between the suspects and establish whether other individuals were involved in organising the attack.

The alleged involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang remains a major focus of the investigation. However, the social media claim should not be treated as independent proof of the gang’s responsibility until the police establish the relevant connections.

Security concerns for Bollywood

The firing incident has renewed concerns about the safety of actors and other prominent personalities in Mumbai. Sule’s demand for an inquiry has also drawn attention to questions surrounding prison security, the monitoring of communications and the ability of criminal networks to allegedly coordinate activities outside jail.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the shooting, the identity and roles of the accused, and the authenticity of the online claim of responsibility. The findings are expected to help establish the motive behind the attack and determine whether it was part of a wider criminal conspiracy.

The case remains under investigation, with police working to establish the full chain of events and identify everyone allegedly involved.
