Assam Vigilance DSP Khargeswar Rabha was found dead in a partially decomposed state inside a hotel room in Bongaigaon. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death, while the cause remains officially unconfirmed.

Khargeswar Rabha, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell in Assam, was found dead in a hotel room in Bongaigaon on Thursday, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, officials said.

According to preliminary information, Rabha’s partially decomposed body was recovered from Room No. 102 of Hotel Jahnavi Regency in Bongaigaon. The condition of the body has raised questions about the circumstances and timeline leading up to its discovery. However, the exact time of death has not been officially established.

The circumstances surrounding the officer’s death remain unclear, and authorities have not yet confirmed the cause. Further details regarding the events preceding the recovery of the body are awaited as the investigation progresses.

Police are expected to examine the circumstances in which Rabha was found, establish the sequence of events and determine the cause of death. Information about the findings of a post-mortem examination was not immediately available. Authorities have also not officially stated whether foul play is suspected.

The recovery of the body has drawn attention because Rabha was serving in the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell, an important unit associated with vigilance-related matters in the state. However, his official position alone does not establish any connection between his death and his professional responsibilities.

Investigators will need to establish the facts surrounding the incident before drawing conclusions about the circumstances of his death. Further official information is expected to clarify the findings of the investigation and any medical examination conducted as part of the process.

Recent Incidents Involving Assam Police Personnel

Rabha’s death comes against the backdrop of several incidents involving police personnel in Assam in recent months. These incidents have included attacks during police operations and a fatal shooting within a security establishment.

On September 10, five police personnel, including the officer-in-charge of Khatowal Police Station, were injured when a police team was allegedly attacked by a group of people during an operation in Geruaati village in Nagaon district. The police vehicle was also damaged during the incident.

The attack highlighted the risks police personnel can face while carrying out operations in the field. Details regarding the subsequent investigation and action taken in that case were not included in the initial information concerning Rabha’s death.

Earlier, on September 3, two Assam Police personnel were killed and two others injured in a shooting at Gamerimura Police Outpost in Kamrup district. According to reports, a fellow police personnel was accused of opening fire using an AK-47 rifle.

The incident raised serious concerns about security within police establishments and the risks associated with armed personnel operating in close proximity to one another.

In another incident on March 22, four Assam Police personnel were injured when suspected militants attacked a police commando post at Jagun in Tinsukia district. Reports indicated that the attackers used rocket-propelled grenades during the assault.

The incidents have underscored the range of security challenges faced by police personnel in Assam, both during field operations and within security establishments.

Cause of Death Yet to Be Established

Despite the sequence of incidents involving police personnel in recent months, authorities have not established any connection between those cases and Rabha’s death in Bongaigaon.

The investigation into the DSP’s death remains focused on determining the circumstances in which his body was found at Hotel Jahnavi Regency. The cause of death, the timeline of events and whether any suspicious circumstances were involved remain unconfirmed.

Further details are awaited from the police investigation and any medical examination conducted in connection with the case. Until the findings are officially established, the circumstances surrounding the death of the Assam Vigilance DSP remain unclear.
