Indian para-athletes Anjanaben Bumbadiya and Jayanti Nehra secured gold and silver medals, respectively, in the Women’s 400m T47 event at the Asian Para Games, delivering a double-medal finish for India at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Thursday.

Thailand’s Sasirawan Inthachot took the bronze medal after clocking 1:02.58, earning 714 Raza points. Nepal’s Prabha Angdembe finished fourth with a time of 1:15.81.

Anjanaben’s performance brought her close to the Asian Para Games record of 58.39 seconds, established by Chinese athlete Li Lu during the 2018 edition in Jakarta. Her sub-one-minute finish underlined her progress among India’s leading women’s para-sprinters.

The Indian contingent also celebrated another podium finish in the Women’s 400m T12 event, where Tejalben Damor won the silver medal with a time of 57.60 seconds. Iran’s Hajar Safarzadeh secured gold in 56.43 seconds, while China’s Shen Yaqin, accompanied by guide He Yuchong, claimed bronze in 58.04 seconds.

Anjanaben Bumbadiya’s Rise in Para Athletics

Born in Gujarat in 2001, Anjanaben Bumbadiya has emerged as a promising Indian para-athlete. She has a congenital upper-limb impairment, with one arm shorter than normal since birth.

Her recent achievements include winning the women’s 400m title at the 2025 Khelo India Para Games. She also recorded a personal best of 1:00.04 at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, according to the supplied event information.

Her latest performance at the Asian Para Games represents another significant milestone in her competitive career. By finishing in 59.97 seconds, she improved on her previous personal-best mark and moved closer to the continental record.

Jayanti Nehra Adds Another International Medal

Jayanti Nehra, born in 1999 and hailing from Odisha, has also built an impressive record in para athletics. Classified in the T47 category, she sustained severe second-degree burns when she accidentally fell into an earthen stove at the age of one. The injury resulted in permanent contractures affecting her left elbow and hand.

Her athletic talent was recognised by school coach Bishnu Prasad Mishra, who enrolled her at the Gurukul Athletic Training Centre in Sakhigopal. He subsequently trained her without charge, helping her develop her abilities in competitive athletics.

Jayanti previously won two medals at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta. She secured silver in the Women’s 400m T47 with a time of 59.71 seconds and bronze in the Women’s 200m T47, finishing in 27.45 seconds.

She also became a world youth champion after winning gold in the 400m at the 2017 World Junior Para Athletics Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland.

Her latest silver medal adds to her international achievements and demonstrates her continued presence among India’s competitive para-sprinters.

India Continues to Shine in Para Athletics

The gold medal for Anjanaben, silver for Jayanti and another silver for Tejalben highlighted India’s performances across the women’s 400m para-athletics events.
