Residents of Ward No. 3 in West Ichailalcherra, North Tripura, staged a road blockade over an alleged three-month drinking water crisis. Local authorities cited a technical fault affecting some households and assured residents that the problem would be addressed.
Residents of Ward No. 3 under West Ichailalcherra Gram Panchayat in Kalacherra block staged a road blockade on Friday, protesting an alleged disruption in drinking water supply that has reportedly continued for nearly three months.
The protest took place near West Ichailalcherra market under the Bagbassa Assembly constituency, where residents raised concerns over the prolonged shortage of drinking water. With the dry season approaching, the affected households expressed apprehension about continued difficulties in accessing an essential daily necessity.
According to the protesters, the regular drinking water supply to their area had remained disrupted for approximately three months. They alleged that they had repeatedly informed the concerned authorities about the problem but had yet to receive an effective and lasting solution.
Frustrated by the prolonged disruption, the residents said they were compelled to stage a road blockade to draw the attention of the administration to their grievances. The protest reflected growing concern among local households over the availability of drinking water and the need for prompt intervention by the authorities.
The residents’ demands come amid recurring complaints about basic civic infrastructure in parts of North Tripura. Road blockades have reportedly been staged in the district in recent times over issues including drinking water shortages and the poor condition of rural roads. Such protests have become a means for affected residents to press for action on problems they say have remained unresolved.
Meanwhile, the local panchayat pradhan offered a different account of the water supply situation. According to the pradhan, water was being supplied across the area, but a few households located near the market were not receiving an adequate supply because of a technical fault.
The pradhan reportedly assured residents that the issue would be addressed. However, the immediate resolution of the problem and the restoration of an adequate supply to the affected households remain key concerns for the residents.

The incident highlights the importance of maintaining reliable drinking water infrastructure, particularly as the dry season approaches. A consistent supply is essential for households, and prolonged disruptions can place additional pressure on residents who depend on local public water systems for their daily needs.
Residents are now looking to the concerned authorities to resolve the reported technical problem and ensure that affected households receive an adequate supply of drinking water. A timely solution could help address the grievances that led to Friday’s road blockade in West Ichailalcherra.
