Around 200 people were detained in Delhi ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police detained party leaders and influencer Dhruv Rathee as security measures intensified across the national capital.

Around 200 people were detained by Delhi Police from Jantar Mantar and surrounding areas on Saturday as authorities tightened security ahead of a protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, officials said.

The detentions came amid heightened security arrangements across the national capital to prevent any untoward incidents during the proposed demonstration. Police personnel were deployed at key locations, vehicle checks were intensified at Delhi’s borders, and surveillance measures were strengthened ahead of the protest.

Earlier in the day, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and the party’s spokespersons, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, were detained at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport after arriving in Delhi ahead of the planned demonstration.

According to the details shared by Dipke on social media, Delhi Police personnel entered the aircraft after it landed at the airport and detained the three individuals from inside the flight. A video posted on Dipke’s social media handle showed police personnel entering the aircraft as he and other CJP members were taken into custody.

In the video, Dipke was heard telling the police, “I have come here to be arrested; arrest me.”

The CJP subsequently announced the detentions through a post on its social media handle, naming Dipke, Das and Ranka. The developments came as police maintained a heightened state of alert in anticipation of the party’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar.

Social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was also reportedly detained at his residence in Gurugram. According to a post published on the CJP’s X handle, around 50 police personnel in plain clothes arrived at Rathee’s residence at approximately 8 am and took him into custody.

The reported detentions of the party’s founder, spokespersons and Rathee added to the developments surrounding the planned demonstration. However, the information provided did not specify the legal grounds for each detention or whether those detained were subsequently released.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police intensified security arrangements across the national capital. Vehicles entering Delhi were being checked at various border points, while police personnel were equipped with body cameras to record developments and help monitor the situation during the demonstration.

Security was also strengthened at the residences of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The additional deployment was part of the broader security measures undertaken ahead of the proposed protest.

Authorities also used drones to monitor key locations in the city. Drone surveillance was reported at New Delhi Railway Station, where Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed across the premises. Security marches were conducted, and drones were used to monitor activity and assess the situation.

Several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House, were also reported closed as part of the security arrangements. These measures affected access to key areas as police worked to manage movement and maintain order around locations associated with the planned demonstration.

The increased deployment of police personnel, surveillance equipment and security forces reflected the authorities’ preparations for the CJP-led protest. The checking of vehicles at Delhi’s borders and monitoring of public transport hubs formed part of the wider effort to prevent disruptions and respond to potential security concerns.

The proposed demonstration was directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The detentions began before the planned gathering at Jantar Mantar, with police taking action against individuals in different locations, including the airport and Gurugram.

As developments unfolded, security personnel remained deployed at sensitive locations across Delhi, including railway premises and areas around the planned protest site. Further details regarding the grounds for the detentions, the status of those taken into custody and the subsequent course of the proposed demonstration were not immediately available in the information provided.
