Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas has paid tribute to feminist icon and trailblazer Gloria Steinem, remembering the influential activist and journalist for the path she paved for generations of women.
Priyanka shared the tribute on Instagram following Steinem’s death, posting a black-and-white video featuring the renowned feminist figure. Alongside the video, the actress wrote, “Thank you for lighting the way. Rest in Glory, Gloria Steinem.”
Steinem, one of the most prominent figures of the feminist movement in the United States, died at the age of 92. According to a statement shared by her foundation on Instagram, she passed away peacefully at her home in New York City on Wednesday, surrounded by loved ones.
Steinem became a nationally recognised leader of second-wave feminism during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Her work played a major role in shaping conversations around women’s rights, equality and social change in the United States and beyond.
Before becoming one of the most recognisable voices of the feminist movement, Steinem began her professional career as a journalist. Through her writing, activism and public advocacy, she emerged as a powerful figure in the fight for gender equality. Her influence extended across generations, making her an enduring symbol of the women’s rights movement.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ tribute reflects the lasting impact Steinem had on women around the world. By describing Steinem as someone who “lit the way,” Priyanka acknowledged the legacy of a woman whose activism helped create greater opportunities and visibility for generations that followed.
Meanwhile, Priyanka continues to expand her international film career with several major projects in the pipeline. The actress recently announced her upcoming film alongside Hollywood star Russell Crowe. The project will mark the first time Priyanka and Crowe will share the screen.
According to the synopsis previously shared by Priyanka, the story is set deep in the Congo and follows a grieving United Nations translator who becomes involved in a covert black-ops mission to recover a mysterious downed aircraft.
The synopsis describes a Special Operations team travelling upriver through militia-controlled territory as the recovery mission takes an increasingly dangerous turn. As they approach the aircraft, they discover that they may never have been expected to bring it back.
Crowe is an acclaimed Hollywood actor who has received several major honours during his career, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award and two Golden Globe Awards. His collaboration with Priyanka is therefore expected to bring together two internationally recognised performers.
Priyanka is also set to appear in filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli’s highly anticipated film Varanasi. The movie features Priyanka alongside Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu and Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.
