Tripura Nectar strengthens its women-led honey enterprise as TRLM distributes bee boxes to Madhumati Producer Group in Pecharthal, helping SHG members expand honey production, boost rural incomes, meet rising demand and advance Tripura’s journey towards self-reliance.
Tripura’s flagship honey brand, Tripura Nectar, took another significant step towards strengthening rural entrepreneurship and self-reliance with the distribution of new bee boxes to members of the Madhumati Producer Group under Pecharthal Block on Friday.
The initiative was organised under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) with the objective of increasing honey production, supporting women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs), and developing a sustainable supply chain to meet the growing demand for Tripura Nectar products.
The bee boxes were distributed by Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, CEO of TRLM, during a programme held at Pecharthal Block. The event was attended by Sajal Chakma, Chairman of the Block Advisory Committee (BAC), Pecharthal, and Nabarun Chakraborty, Block Development Officer (BDO), Pecharthal.
Representatives from the District Mission Management Unit (DMMU), including the DMC, DC-NF and DC-Farm, along with block-level officials and staff, were also present during the programme.
The distribution of additional bee boxes is expected to provide SHG members with greater capacity to expand their beekeeping activities and increase honey production. With enhanced resources, the members of the Madhumati Producer Group will be able to strengthen their enterprises while contributing to the growing production base of Tripura Nectar.
Officials highlighted that the initiative goes beyond simply increasing honey output. It is aimed at creating a sustainable rural enterprise model in which women SHG members can participate directly in production, entrepreneurship and market-oriented activities.
Tripura Nectar has increasingly emerged as a women-led brand associated with innovation, livelihood generation and self-reliance. By providing SHG members with productive assets such as bee boxes, along with training and institutional support, TRLM is encouraging rural women to develop sustainable sources of income.
The initiative also reflects TRLM’s broader focus on livelihood diversification and strengthening market-linked rural enterprises. Beekeeping and honey production offer SHG members an opportunity to supplement household incomes while contributing to the development of a locally rooted value chain.
The additional bee boxes are therefore expected to help the Madhumati Producer Group increase its production capacity and improve its ability to supply honey for the Tripura Nectar brand. The move could also strengthen the connection between rural producers and the wider market.
Officials expressed appreciation for the encouragement and guidance extended by the Chief Minister of Tripura and the Secretary of the Rural Development Department, stating that their support has motivated the TRLM team to work towards further milestones in rural livelihood development.
