Donation boxes at Tripureshwari Temple in Udaipur were opened after one month and 20 days, with foreign currencies from several countries found among the offerings during a closely supervised counting process.
The historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur witnessed the reopening and counting of its donation boxes on Friday, with foreign currencies from several countries found among the offerings. The 17 donation boxes and chests were opened after a gap of one month and 20 days under strict administrative supervision.
The counting process began in the morning inside the temple courtyard and continued throughout the day until evening. An 18-member special team constituted by the Gomati District Magistrate’s office supervised the entire exercise to ensure transparency, accountability and orderly completion of the counting process.
Security arrangements were also strengthened around the temple premises during the operation. Officials closely monitored the proceedings as the offerings from devotees were sorted and counted.
Deputy Collector Chandrashekhar Chattopadhyay said that, besides Indian currency, the donation boxes contained foreign notes and coins. Currencies from countries including the United States, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bangladesh were found during the counting.
The discovery of foreign currency has highlighted the temple’s growing reach beyond domestic devotees. Officials noted that the presence of international currency indicates that the famous religious site continues to attract visitors and pilgrims from outside India. The temple, widely revered as one of Tripura’s major spiritual destinations, has increasingly become an important attraction for tourists as well.
The offerings also reflect changing patterns of donation at the temple. Authorities pointed out that devotees are no longer dependent solely on cash contributions. With bank QR codes introduced at the temple, visitors can now make digital donations conveniently. The growing use of digital payment facilities has added a modern dimension to the temple’s traditional donation system.
Temple officials said the offerings represent the faith and devotion of devotees who visit the shrine. They added that contributions from both domestic and international visitors demonstrate the continuing religious significance of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple.
The temple, located in Udaipur in Gomati district, holds an important place in Tripura’s religious and cultural landscape. The district administration stressed that the donation-box opening and counting were carried out under close supervision to maintain fairness and transparency.
