Kalyanpur residents raise nearly Rs 9 lakh through a crowdfunding drive for toddler Manashree Chowdhury’s SMA Type-1 treatment at AIIMS New Delhi, as local leaders, clubs, doctors, employees and residents unite to support her life-saving medical care.
In a remarkable display of community solidarity, residents of Kalyanpur came together on Tuesday to raise nearly Rs 9 lakh for the treatment of toddler Manashree Chowdhury, who is battling the life-threatening Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type-1.
A crowdfunding programme was organised at Sonar Tori Mukta Mancha to support Manashree’s family in meeting the enormous cost of her medical treatment. The initiative was spearheaded by social activist Raja Saha and initiated by local MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury.
The programme began at around 3 p.m. and continued until midnight, with MLA Pinaki Das Choudhury personally supervising the proceedings throughout the campaign. Organisers appealed to residents and well-wishers to contribute whatever they could towards Manashree’s treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, where she is currently receiving medical care.
The appeal received an encouraging response from people across Kalyanpur. The Kalyanpur BJP Mandal contributed Rs 50,000, while Somen Ghosh, Chairman of the Panchayat Samiti, donated his one month’s allowance towards the child’s treatment.
Several local clubs, contractors, doctors, government employees and other residents also joined the campaign. Many placed their contributions in the collection box, reflecting a strong sense of collective responsibility towards the critically ill child.
By the end of the programme, the offline crowdfunding campaign had collected nearly Rs 9 lakh, providing a significant boost to Manashree’s family, which has been seeking financial assistance from people across Tripura.
Manashree’s treatment requires a substantial amount of money, making public support crucial for her family. The Kalyanpur campaign has emerged as an example of how grassroots mobilisation can help families struggling with the financial burden of critical medical treatment.
During the programme, speakers prayed for Manashree’s speedy recovery and urged more people to contribute to the fundraising effort. Participants said the campaign was not merely about raising money but also about demonstrating humanity and standing together during a family’s most difficult time.
