Deepika Padukone is not part of ‘Brahmastra 2’, her spokesperson confirms, dismissing reports about her casting as Amrita. The actress, who appeared briefly in the first film, will next star alongside Shah Rukh Khan in ‘King’, scheduled for release in December 2026.

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is not part of the upcoming fantasy action-adventure film ‘Brahmastra 2’, her spokesperson has clarified, putting an end to recent speculation surrounding her alleged casting in the highly anticipated sequel.

Deepika Padukone, who was last seen in ‘Singham Again’, had been widely rumoured to reprise her role as Amrita, the mother of Ranbir Kapoor’s character Shiva, in the second instalment of the Brahmastra franchise.

On Monday, Deepika’s spokesperson issued a statement categorically rejecting the reports and said that the actress has no association with the upcoming project.

“All recent reports of Deepika Padukone being a part of ‘Brahmastra 2’ or associated with the project in any capacity are untrue,” the spokesperson said.

The clarification comes after several reports claimed that Deepika was being considered for a more prominent role as Amrita in the sequel. Some reports had suggested that her casting was effectively finalised, while others maintained that no official confirmation had been made by the filmmakers.

Deepika had made a brief but significant appearance as Amrita in the first ‘Brahmastra’ film. Her character is Shiva’s mother and is closely connected to the mythology surrounding the powerful Astras featured in the franchise. Amrita is associated with the Jal Astra, or water weapon, and her past plays an important role in understanding Shiva’s origins and his connection to the supernatural world.

The speculation surrounding Deepika’s involvement in Brahmastra 2 had also emerged amid wider discussions about her professional commitments and recent reports concerning her departure from another major project, ‘Spirit’, starring Prabhas.

Deepika was originally attached to the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial opposite Prabhas but exited the project in 2025. At the time, reports attributed her departure to disagreements involving remuneration, working hours and other professional conditions.

The issue resurfaced recently following comments by Pranay Reddy Vanga, brother of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who alleged that Deepika had sought a percentage of the film’s profits in addition to remuneration and specific working-hour conditions. The claims once again triggered discussion around the actress’ exit from the project.

Deepika’s latest clarification, however, directly addresses only the speculation surrounding her alleged association with Brahmastra 2. With her spokesperson denying any involvement, reports suggesting that she will return as Amrita in the sequel remain unsubstantiated.

The Brahmastra franchise, which began with ‘Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva’, is being developed as a larger fantasy universe. The first film starred Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in key roles, with Deepika’s appearance as Amrita generating considerable interest despite her limited screen time.

Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone has several major projects generating interest among audiences. She will next be seen in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘King’, which features a large ensemble cast from the Hindi film industry.

‘King’ is scheduled to release in December 2026 and is among the most anticipated Bollywood releases of the year. For now, Deepika’s spokesperson has made it clear that fans should not expect the actress to be part of Brahmastra 2, despite the recent reports linking her to the sequel.
