Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will lay the foundation stone for a new medical college at Ambassa in Dhalai district on Monday, August 24, fulfilling a long-standing commitment to strengthen healthcare and medical education facilities in the state.
The proposed H.P. Ghosh Memorial Medical College will be developed by the Bandhan Group near Dhalai District Hospital at Kulai. The institution is planned as a 100-bed medical college and is expected to begin academic activities from the 2027-28 academic year.
According to a representative of the communication unit of the Bandhan Group, the project is part of the group’s broader plans to expand educational and healthcare infrastructure in the region. The group is also planning to establish paramedical and nursing colleges alongside the medical college, potentially creating additional opportunities for students seeking professional healthcare education.
The foundation stone-laying ceremony is expected to be attended by several dignitaries and public representatives. Dhalai Zilla Sabhadhipati Susmita Das, MLA Chittaranjan Debbarma and Ambassa Municipal Council chairperson Pratima Malakar are among those scheduled to remain present at the event.
The establishment of the medical college is expected to strengthen Dhalai’s healthcare infrastructure while improving access to medical education in the district. At present, students from Dhalai and neighbouring areas often have to travel to other parts of the state for higher medical and professional education.

The upcoming institution is therefore being viewed as an important step towards expanding medical education facilities beyond the state capital and creating a stronger healthcare ecosystem in Dhalai.
