PM Modi said India’s youth will play a crucial role in shaping Viksit Bharat, urging young graduates to embrace continuous learning, innovation and national responsibility. Addressing the IIT Delhi convocation, he highlighted rapid technological changes, emerging opportunities, research initiatives and the importance of preparing for India’s evolving future.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India’s youth will play a decisive role in shaping the country’s journey towards becoming a ‘Viksit Bharat’, stressing that the choices and decisions made by young people will have a lasting impact on the nation’s future.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, PM Modi urged young graduates to remain committed to continuous learning as the world undergoes rapid technological, economic and strategic transformation. He said that those who continue to learn and adapt will be better equipped to succeed in an increasingly changing global environment.
A total of more than 3,000 students, including 587 PhD scholars, were conferred degrees during the convocation ceremony. The Prime Minister congratulated the graduating students and highlighted the opportunities as well as responsibilities awaiting them as they enter the next phase of their academic and professional lives.
PM Modi pointed to the rapidly changing global strategic landscape and the fast pace of technological development. He said that the global balance of power is shifting continuously, making it difficult to predict exactly what the world will look like over the next two or three decades.
According to the Prime Minister, technological advancement will continue to transform industries, professions and the nature of work. While such changes could create challenges for the younger generation, they would also open up new opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, research and professional growth.
He emphasised that continuous learning would be one of the most important factors determining success in the future.
“The world’s strategic equations are changing quickly, and the global balance of power is shifting every moment. The biggest force behind this transformation is the rapid pace of technology,” PM Modi said.
He noted that every generation faces specific challenges and carries a distinct national responsibility. For today’s graduates, he said, their actions over the next three to three-and-a-half decades could significantly influence India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation.
The Prime Minister urged the youth to consider the larger national interest while making professional and personal decisions. He said that young people should ask themselves how their work can contribute to addressing the country’s needs and supporting India’s development.
PM Modi also highlighted research and innovation as major areas of opportunity for young graduates. He said India is strengthening its research ecosystem through several government initiatives aimed at encouraging talented researchers, developing new ideas and promoting scientific advancement.
Among the initiatives highlighted by the Prime Minister was the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, which provides opportunities for talented young researchers to pursue advanced research. He also referred to the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme, designed to support the advancement of new ideas and strengthen innovation.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the establishment of the National Research Foundation, which aims to provide fresh momentum to science and research activities in the country.
He said substantial financial support is also being arranged for the research sector, with funding of up to Rs 1 lakh crore being made available to strengthen research and development.

The IIT Delhi convocation therefore served not only as a milestone for thousands of graduates but also as a platform for discussing the broader responsibilities of India’s younger generation. PM Modi’s message focused on adaptability, lifelong learning, innovation and a strong sense of national responsibility.
As India moves through a period of rapid technological and global change, the Prime Minister said the youth will remain central to the country’s development journey. Their education, skills, research efforts and professional choices, he stressed, will collectively help determine the pace and direction of India’s progress towards Viksit Bharat.
