Rahul Gandhi will meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay in Chennai and address students at Island Grounds under his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ initiative, highlighting examination paper leaks, rising education costs, unemployment and challenges facing young people.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Chennai on Saturday to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and interact with students as part of his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj (Voice of Students)’ outreach programme. The initiative aims to highlight concerns surrounding examination irregularities, paper leaks, rising tuition fees and unemployment.

According to the schedule, Gandhi will meet Chief Minister Vijay at his residence in Neelankarai at 1.30 p.m. The meeting is expected to take place about an hour after the Congress leader’s scheduled arrival at Chennai airport.

Later in the day, Gandhi will address students at Chennai’s Island Grounds at 5 p.m. The programme is part of his ongoing outreach effort to provide young people with a platform to raise concerns about the education system and the difficulties they face while pursuing academic and employment opportunities.

The Chennai interaction follows similar programmes organised in Kota in Rajasthan, Pune and Nashik in Maharashtra, and Indore in Madhya Pradesh. Through these engagements, Gandhi has sought to hear directly from students about their experiences, expectations and concerns regarding education and employment.

More Than One Lakh Students Registered

The Tamil Nadu Congress has made extensive arrangements for the programme at Island Grounds, including the construction of a large covered pavilion to accommodate participants.

According to the organisers, more than one lakh students registered for the event through a dedicated website and QR codes circulated across Tamil Nadu. However, entry to the main interaction will be restricted to 10,000 students who have been issued identification cards.

Students from several colleges across the state are expected to attend the programme. To ensure that people unable to enter the main pavilion can follow the proceedings, organisers have installed large screens outside the enclosure.

Arrangements have also been made to provide drinking water and toilet facilities at the venue. Seating has been reserved for approximately 350 invited education representatives, including college principals, professors and former principals.

The preparations are intended to facilitate the participation of students and education professionals while ensuring that the event proceeds smoothly.

Congress Leaders Review Event Preparations

Tamil Nadu Congress president Manickam Tagore inspected the venue and reviewed preparations with senior party leaders ahead of Gandhi’s visit.

He was accompanied by senior party in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir, joint in-charge Nivedit Alva, ministers Rajesh Kumar and Viswanathan, and Congress Legislature Party leader Tharahai Cuthbert.

The state Congress leadership has been coordinating arrangements related to student participation, venue management and facilities for attendees.

The programme is expected to bring together students from different educational institutions to discuss issues affecting their academic experiences and future prospects. The organisers have focused on ensuring that selected participants can attend the interaction and that the proceedings remain accessible to people gathered outside the main pavilion.

Examination Paper Leaks, NEET and Education Costs in Focus

Examination irregularities are expected to be among the key issues raised during Gandhi’s interaction with students. Concerns over paper leaks, including those involving the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and other examinations, have become an important part of discussions surrounding the education system.

Students are also expected to highlight the increasing cost of education, including tuition fees, and the financial challenges faced by families seeking access to quality educational opportunities.

Uncertainty over employment prospects is another major concern that the outreach programme intends to address. Young people preparing for competitive examinations and pursuing higher education often face questions about job availability, recruitment opportunities and the transition from education to employment.

The ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ initiative seeks to bring these concerns into direct discussion with students, allowing them to communicate their experiences and expectations.

The interaction is also expected to provide an opportunity to discuss broader questions about educational opportunities, fairness in examinations and the need to improve prospects for young people entering the workforce.

Meetings With Political Leaders Also Scheduled

Apart from his meeting with Chief Minister Vijay and the student interaction at Island Grounds, Gandhi is expected to meet Congress functionaries and other prominent political leaders at the Taj Connemara hotel during his Chennai visit.

His scheduled meeting with Vijay comes amid a packed programme involving political engagements and discussions with students. The meeting is slated for 1.30 p.m., while the student outreach event is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Following the day’s engagements, Gandhi is scheduled to leave Chennai for New Delhi on a flight departing at 9.30 p.m.

The visit places student-related concerns at the centre of Gandhi’s Chennai programme, with examination integrity, educational expenses and employment opportunities expected to feature prominently in the discussions.
