AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder inspected waterlogging-prone areas, including RMS Chowmuhani and Joynagar, to review drainage conditions and ensure permanent solutions to monsoon flooding. AMC officials were directed to take immediate measures while progress of the new Coffee House project was also reviewed.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has intensified its efforts to provide a permanent solution to the recurring problem of water-logging in different parts of the city during the monsoon season. In a major initiative aimed at improving urban drainage infrastructure, Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder on Friday conducted an extensive field inspection of several waterlogging-prone areas along with engineers and senior officials of the civic body.
The inspection covered key locations including RMS Chowmuhani, Joynagar and other vulnerable areas that frequently face water accumulation during heavy rainfall. The Mayor reviewed the condition of drainage channels and assessed the effectiveness of the existing water discharge system.
During the visit, Majumder closely examined the ground situation to identify obstacles that were preventing the smooth flow of rainwater. He interacted with engineers and officials responsible for drainage maintenance and sought detailed information regarding the causes behind recurring waterlogging in several localities.
Addressing the officials during the inspection, the Mayor stressed the importance of adopting long-term and sustainable measures instead of temporary arrangements. He instructed the engineers to take immediate steps to remove drainage bottlenecks and formulate permanent solutions that would help residents avoid the annual hardship caused by waterlogging during the rainy season.
“We inspected various waterlogging-prone areas of Agartala along with engineers and senior officials of the Municipal Corporation. We examined the drainage situation on the ground and identified the points where obstacles are creating problems in water discharge. Necessary steps must be taken immediately to ensure smooth drainage and provide a lasting solution to the issue,” the Mayor said.
Residents of several parts of Agartala have long been facing difficulties due to water accumulation during heavy showers. Overflowing drains and blocked water channels often disrupt normal life, affecting traffic movement, businesses and daily activities. The AMC has been working on improving drainage infrastructure, and the latest inspection is being viewed as part of a broader effort to strengthen urban flood management in the city.
Apart from reviewing the drainage network, the Mayor also visited the site of the proposed Coffee House being developed at the Agartala Children’s Park ground. During the visit, he assessed the progress of the construction work and discussed project-related matters with the officials concerned.
Majumder directed the authorities to expedite the ongoing work and ensure that the Coffee House project is completed within the stipulated timeframe. The facility is expected to become a new recreational and social destination for residents and visitors once completed.

The inspection was attended by Ward No. 20 Corporator Ratna Dutta, AMC East Zone Chairman Sukhmay Saha, AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid A, along with engineers and officials associated with the drainage and infrastructure projects.
The civic body’s latest initiative highlights its commitment to improving urban infrastructure and addressing one of the most persistent challenges faced by Agartala residents during the monsoon. With the Mayor emphasizing permanent and effective solutions, citizens are hopeful that the city’s drainage system will witness significant improvements in the coming months.
