Tripura CM Manik Saha launched the Rabi season paddy procurement under the MSP scheme at Kakraban, reaffirming the government’s commitment to doubling farmers’ income through MSP procurement, PM-Kisan, Kisan Credit Cards, modern farming support and welfare initiatives across the state.

Reaffirming the Tripura government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and improving the socio-economic condition of farmers, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday inaugurated the paddy procurement programme under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme for the current Rabi season at Kakraban in Gomati district.

Launching the procurement drive at the Kakraban Higher Secondary School ground, the Chief Minister said the state government continues to procure paddy from farmers at the MSP of Rs 2,369 per quintal, ensuring remunerative prices for agricultural produce. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for farmers’ welfare, Saha said the state government remains dedicated to enhancing the livelihoods of the farming community through coordinated efforts with the Centre.

Sharing the development on social media, the Chief Minister stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has continued procuring paddy at the MSP to improve the socio-economic condition of the state’s food producers. He reiterated that the welfare of farmers remains one of the government’s highest priorities.

Addressing the gathering, Saha said India is predominantly an agriculture-based nation and both the Central and state governments are implementing several farmer-centric initiatives to make agriculture more profitable and sustainable. He noted that since Prime Minister Modi assumed office, numerous landmark programmes have been introduced to support agricultural development and provide financial security to farmers.

The Chief Minister highlighted flagship schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM-KUSUM, Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and other agricultural initiatives that have significantly strengthened the farming sector in Tripura.

He said the state government has been procuring paddy under the MSP scheme since 2018 with the objective of doubling farmers’ income. According to official figures, 2,61,269 metric tonnes of paddy have been procured so far, resulting in the direct transfer of approximately Rs 520 crore into the bank accounts of 1,35,166 farmers across the state.

Saha further informed that under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, nearly Rs 969.97 crore has been directly transferred to eligible farmers in Tripura, providing much-needed financial assistance for agricultural activities. Farmers affected by crop losses have also received compensation amounting to Rs 10.63 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, offering relief during adverse conditions.

Highlighting institutional credit support, the Chief Minister said more than 4.57 lakh farmers have benefited from the Kisan Credit Card scheme, enabling them to access affordable agricultural loans. Additionally, over 2.53 lakh Soil Health Cards have been issued to farmers, helping them adopt scientific farming practices through better understanding of soil nutrients and balanced fertiliser use.

He also noted that the state government is promoting mechanised farming by supplying modern agricultural machinery and equipment at subsidised rates, reducing cultivation costs while improving productivity and efficiency.

Saha observed that earlier there had been no comprehensive strategy for farmers’ financial development, leading many cultivators to move away from agriculture. However, with sustained government support and attractive incentives, many farmers have returned to cultivation and previously fallow land is once again being brought under agricultural production.
