Veteran Bollywood star Anil Kapoor says being an “Alpha” is about courage, conviction, leadership, and presence—not gender. Ahead of Alpha’s July 3 release, the actor believes the film will redefine heroism, challenge stereotypes, and introduce a bold new chapter in Indian action cinema.

Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has shared his thoughts on the evolving definition of leadership and heroism in Indian cinema, stating that being an “Alpha” has never been about gender. Speaking about his upcoming action thriller Alpha, the acclaimed actor said the film represents a significant shift in storytelling, where courage, conviction, and strong screen presence matter more than traditional labels of male or female leads.

Kapoor, whose role in Alpha has been kept under wraps to avoid revealing key plot details, expressed confidence that modern audiences are ready to embrace stories that challenge long-standing conventions. According to the veteran star, Indian cinema is witnessing a transformation in which viewers are looking beyond stereotypes and focusing instead on compelling characters capable of driving a story forward.

“For the longest time, we’ve looked at cinema through labels—male lead, female lead, hero, heroine. But audiences have evolved, and so has storytelling,” Kapoor said while discussing the film. He added that what excites him most about Alpha is its ability to question outdated definitions and encourage a fresh perspective on heroism.

The actor emphasized that the qualities of an “Alpha” are universal and should never be limited by gender. He believes that confidence, determination, leadership, and the ability to inspire others are characteristics that resonate with audiences regardless of whether the character is portrayed by a man or a woman.

Kapoor also reflected on his family’s contribution to meaningful cinema. As a father, he said he has watched both of his daughters consistently support stories that push creative boundaries and expand opportunities for women in the film industry. Their commitment to progressive storytelling, he noted, aligns closely with the vision behind Alpha.

According to Kapoor, films like Alpha have the potential to open an entirely new chapter for Indian action cinema. He expressed optimism that audiences visiting theatres are increasingly seeking fresh cinematic experiences that move beyond conventional narratives and present stronger, more dynamic characters.

The actor further stated that Alpha represents more than just an action film. In his view, it encourages viewers to rethink leadership and heroism without attaching gender-based qualifications. Instead of asking whether a character is a male or female lead, Kapoor believes the more meaningful question should simply be: “Who is the Alpha?”

He added that this approach reflects the future direction of Indian cinema, where storytelling places greater importance on the strength of a character rather than traditional classifications. Kapoor described this evolution as both powerful and necessary for the industry.

Produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha features an ensemble cast that includes Bobby Deol in the role of the antagonist. While details surrounding Kapoor’s character remain confidential, the film has generated considerable anticipation among movie enthusiasts due to its action-packed premise and its promise of presenting a fresh cinematic vision.
