Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy chaired the third ESIC Regional Board Meeting at the Secretariat, emphasizing stronger social security, expanded ESIC coverage, and effective welfare implementation for workers. Officials discussed enhancing labour welfare schemes, improving service delivery, and ensuring comprehensive social protection for the state’s working population.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare and social protection of workers, Tripura Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Monday emphasized the need to strengthen social security measures and expand welfare coverage for labourers during the third Regional Board Meeting of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
The meeting was held at the Conference Hall of the State Secretariat in the New Capital Complex and was chaired by Labour Minister Tinku Roy, who also serves as the Chairman of the ESIC Regional Board. Senior officials from the Labour Department and representatives associated with ESIC attended the session and deliberated on several important issues concerning workers’ welfare and social protection.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Roy highlighted the crucial role played by ESIC in safeguarding the interests of the working class. He stated that social security and welfare programmes are essential for ensuring a dignified and secure life for labourers and their families. According to him, the meeting served as a significant platform to review existing initiatives and explore ways to enhance their effectiveness.
Roy noted that extensive and productive discussions were held regarding the implementation and expansion of various labour welfare schemes. He stressed that the government’s priority remains ensuring that workers receive timely benefits and adequate protection under social security programmes.
“The initiatives undertaken for labour welfare must become more dynamic and effective. Today’s discussions focused on reviewing the progress of existing programmes and strengthening measures aimed at protecting the rights, livelihoods, and well-being of workers,” the minister said.
The meeting was attended by Tapas Ray, Secretary of the Labour Department, Labour Commissioner Biswajit Paul, Joint Labour Commissioner Binoy Bhusan Das, and other senior officials and stakeholders. Participants reviewed the current status of ESIC-related programmes and examined strategies to broaden coverage so that a larger number of eligible workers can benefit from the scheme.
Officials informed that special emphasis was placed on improving the delivery of ESIC services, expanding social protection mechanisms, and ensuring that welfare benefits reach workers efficiently and without delay. Discussions also focused on addressing implementation challenges and strengthening coordination among departments for better execution of welfare initiatives.
The ESIC Regional Board Meeting concluded with a collective commitment to further enhance labour welfare measures and strengthen social security frameworks across Tripura. Officials expressed confidence that the decisions and recommendations emerging from the meeting would contribute significantly to improving the quality of life and economic security of workers throughout the state.
