The Border Security Force (BSF) celebrated International Yoga Day 2026 on the historic Indo-Bangla Maitri Bridge at Sabroom, Tripura. BSF jawans performed yoga and pranayama exercises, promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, border discipline, and India-Bangladesh friendship while highlighting the importance of peace, harmony, and healthy living.

The Border Security Force (BSF) commemorated the 12th International Yoga Day with a special programme on the historic Indo-Bangla Maitri Bridge at Sabroom on Sunday, highlighting the importance of physical fitness, mental well-being, and international harmony. The event was organized by the ‘F’ Company of the 114 Battalion BSF and witnessed enthusiastic participation from BSF personnel stationed along the border.

Against the scenic backdrop of the international boundary connecting India and Bangladesh, BSF jawans performed a series of yoga postures and pranayama exercises as part of the global celebration of Yoga Day. The programme reflected the force’s commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and promoting discipline among personnel tasked with safeguarding the nation’s borders.

The observance of International Yoga Day at the Maitri Bridge carried special significance due to the symbolic importance of the location. The bridge, often referred to as a “bridge of friendship,” stands as a symbol of growing cooperation and goodwill between India and Bangladesh. By organizing the event at this landmark, the BSF aimed to convey a message of peace, friendship, and mutual understanding alongside the benefits of yoga.

Speaking to media representatives after the programme, Deputy Commandant R.L. Meena emphasized the crucial role yoga plays in the lives of security personnel. He stated that regular yoga practice helps improve both physical and mental health, enabling jawans to remain fit, focused, and resilient while performing challenging duties in demanding border environments.

“Yoga is not only a form of physical exercise but also a way to achieve mental balance and inner strength. For personnel deployed in difficult conditions, it contributes significantly to overall well-being and operational efficiency,” Meena said.

He further noted that hosting the programme on the Indo-Bangla Maitri Bridge delivered a dual message—encouraging healthy living through yoga while also reinforcing the spirit of friendship and harmony between neighboring nations. According to him, such initiatives help foster positive values that extend beyond borders.

The celebration added a unique dimension to the global observance of International Yoga Day, which is marked annually across the world to promote awareness about the benefits of yoga. The participation of BSF personnel demonstrated the force’s dedication to wellness, discipline, and national service.
