Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumdar urged citizens to build healthy families and a disease-free society through yoga during International Yoga Day celebrations. Speaking at a community programme in Agartala, he highlighted yoga’s role in physical, mental, and social well-being while encouraging youth to adopt daily yoga practices.

The message of health, wellness, and holistic living echoed across Agartala as citizens enthusiastically participated in celebrations marking International Yoga Day on Sunday. The event witnessed the active presence of Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, who emphasized the importance of yoga in creating healthy individuals, families, and societies.

The yoga programme was organized at the auditorium of Bijoykumar Girls’ School under the initiative of Ramnagar Mandal and the Ramnagar Assembly constituency. A large number of residents, yoga enthusiasts, social leaders, and public representatives attended the event, demonstrating their commitment to a healthier lifestyle through the practice of yoga.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Dipak Majumdar described yoga as much more than a form of physical exercise. He stated that yoga represents a complete philosophy of life that promotes physical fitness, mental peace, and spiritual balance. He urged people to take a pledge on International Yoga Day to build healthy families and a healthy society through regular yoga practice.

“Yoga is not just physical exercise; it is a complete philosophy of life. A healthy individual, a healthy family, and a healthy society should be the pledge of International Yoga Day,” Majumdar said while addressing participants.

The Mayor also highlighted India’s contribution to the global promotion of yoga. He recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea of International Yoga Day at the United Nations in 2014. Following widespread international support, June 21 has been observed as International Yoga Day since 2015, helping to introduce India’s ancient tradition of yoga and pranayama to people across the world.

The programme featured guided sessions conducted by experienced yoga trainers, who led participants through a series of asanas, pranayama techniques, and meditation exercises. The activities focused on improving flexibility, enhancing concentration, reducing stress, and promoting overall well-being.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Ramnagar Mandal president Amitabh Bhattacharjee, corporators Snigdha Das Deb, Bhaswati Debbarma, Nitu Dey, and Tushar Kanti Bhattacharjee. Social leaders and community members also participated actively in the programme.

Speakers at the event emphasized that yoga has become increasingly important in modern life, where stress, unhealthy habits, and lifestyle-related diseases are on the rise. They encouraged citizens, especially the younger generation, to incorporate yoga into their daily routines to maintain physical fitness and mental wellness.
