US President Donald Trump says Washington is close to securing a nuclear agreement with Iran but warns military action remains an option if talks collapse. Trump insists Iran must never possess nuclear weapons, highlighting ongoing negotiations, Middle East tensions, Strait of Hormuz concerns, and the administration’s diplomatic strategy.

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States is nearing a potential nuclear agreement with Iran, while making it clear that military action remains on the table if negotiations fail to deliver a satisfactory outcome for Washington.

Speaking during an interview with Fox News at the White House, Trump emphasized that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains the central objective of his administration’s negotiations with Tehran. According to the President, discussions have progressed significantly, bringing both sides closer to a possible agreement after months of diplomatic engagement and regional tensions.

Trump stated that negotiators were approaching what he described as a “very good deal” and suggested that diplomatic efforts were his preferred path. However, he also warned that the United States would pursue alternative measures if talks failed to achieve their intended goals.

“We’re close to a very good deal,” Trump said, adding that if negotiations do not succeed, the administration would consider other options, including military measures.

A key element of the proposed agreement, according to Trump, is Iran’s commitment not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons. He claimed that Iranian negotiators had accepted language explicitly prohibiting the development, acquisition, or purchase of such weapons.

“The one guarantee that I have to have is that there will be no nuclear weapons,” Trump said. “They’ve agreed to that.”

The President also revealed that the scope of negotiations had expanded following concerns raised by the United States regarding the possibility of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon from external sources rather than developing one domestically. As a result, negotiators reportedly adjusted the language of the agreement to address both development and acquisition concerns.

Despite describing Iranian negotiators as “very tough,” Trump expressed confidence that gradual progress was being made. He acknowledged that the talks have been lengthy and challenging but maintained that discussions were moving in the direction sought by the United States.

Trump reiterated that diplomacy remains his preferred approach but stressed that Washington would not accept an agreement that fails to protect American interests or address security concerns in the region.

“If we don’t get what we want, we’re going to end it a different way,” he warned.

The President also linked the success of a future agreement to maritime security in the Middle East, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes. Trump argued that a successful deal should ensure the immediate reopening and unrestricted use of the waterway.

He further claimed that Iran is negotiating from a weakened position following recent US military operations, though he did not provide specific details during the interview.

Addressing domestic political concerns, Trump dismissed suggestions that upcoming midterm elections could influence his policy decisions toward Iran. He insisted that national security considerations would remain the primary factor guiding his administration’s actions.

In addition to discussing Iran, Trump criticized media coverage of the conflict and accused Democrats of opposing several major domestic initiatives, including tax reduction measures and border security policies.

The latest remarks come as the White House continues efforts to secure a long-term understanding with Tehran, aiming to reduce regional instability while ensuring that Iran remains permanently barred from possessing nuclear weapons. With negotiations ongoing, international attention remains focused on whether diplomacy can deliver a breakthrough or whether tensions could escalate further in the months ahead.
