Residents of Ishanchandra Para in Ambassa, Tripura’s Dhalai district, staged a highway blockade after enduring a month-long power outage. The protest disrupted traffic on the Ambassa-Gandacherra road until electricity department officials assured villagers of immediate restoration through the installation of a new transformer.

Frustrated by a prolonged electricity outage that lasted for more than a month, residents of Ishanchandra Para in Ambassa under Tripura’s Dhalai district staged a road blockade on the Ambassa-Gandacherra highway on Saturday morning, demanding immediate restoration of power supply.

According to local residents, the area has been facing a severe electricity crisis for several weeks, forcing families to live without basic electrical services. Villagers alleged that despite repeated complaints and appeals to the concerned electricity department, no effective action had been taken to resolve the issue.

The growing frustration eventually led residents to organize a protest by blocking the busy Ambassa-Gandacherra road. Protesters gathered in large numbers and halted vehicular movement, causing significant inconvenience to commuters and traders. The blockade also affected the weekly local market, disrupting transportation and business activities in the region.

Speaking during the protest, one agitated resident said that the community had been living in darkness for weeks and that repeated requests for assistance had gone unanswered. The protesters declared that they would not withdraw the agitation until senior officials personally visited the site and provided a concrete assurance regarding restoration of electricity.

Following information about the blockade, police personnel from Ambassa Police Station rushed to the location and initiated discussions with the protesters in an effort to restore normal traffic movement. However, the villagers remained firm in their demand, insisting that only a direct response from senior power department officials would satisfy them.

As the protest continued, senior officers from the electricity department arrived at the spot and held detailed discussions with local residents. During the meeting, officials assured the villagers that a new transformer would be installed at the earliest and that efforts would be made to restore electricity supply without further delay.

After receiving the assurance from the authorities, the protesters agreed to withdraw the blockade. The demonstration, which lasted for nearly two hours, was lifted around noon, allowing traffic to resume on the important highway route.

Residents, however, emphasized that they would closely monitor the department’s actions and expect the promised restoration work to be completed promptly. The incident highlights the growing public frustration over prolonged disruptions in essential services and underscores the importance of timely intervention by authorities to address citizens’ grievances.
