Her inspiring journey reflects the growing success of women across the country who are breaking barriers and achieving financial independence through entrepreneurship and hard work.
Born into a farmer’s family in Haripur village under the Rishyamukh block of South Tripura district, Shukla Roy faced numerous challenges from an early age. Married at a young age, she soon found herself struggling to support a family of five. With only one earning member in the household and limited financial resources, sustaining the family became increasingly difficult.
Rather than accepting her circumstances, Shukla decided to explore alternative livelihood opportunities. In 2000, she took her first step toward self-employment by purchasing two goats and starting a small livestock-rearing business. The venture, though modest in scale, proved successful and encouraged her to expand her activities further.
Building on her initial success, she ventured into poultry farming. To grow her business, she sought financial assistance through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). By securing loans and carefully investing the funds, she gradually expanded her enterprise. Her disciplined approach to business management and timely loan repayments helped her gain confidence and access to larger financial support.
Recognizing the economic importance of rubber cultivation in Tripura, Shukla diversified her income sources by entering the rubber farming sector. She invested in rubber-processing equipment and began renting the machinery to other farmers and cultivators. This innovative step created an additional stream of income and strengthened her financial position.
Her entrepreneurial journey received another boost when she availed a Mudra loan of Rs 1.5 lakh under a government scheme. The financial assistance enabled her to further expand her business activities and improve productivity. Determined to maximize opportunities, she also started cultivating various fruits around her home, adding yet another source of revenue to her growing enterprise.
Over the years, Shukla remained committed to repaying every loan obtained through SHGs and government initiatives. Her dedication, financial discipline, and willingness to embrace new opportunities gradually transformed her family’s economic condition. Today, she proudly stands as a successful ‘Lakhpati Didi’, having achieved financial stability and significantly improved the quality of life of her family members.
Reflecting on her journey, Shukla Roy said that every milestone was achieved through relentless struggle, patience, and perseverance. While the path was challenging, the results have been deeply rewarding.
Beyond her financial success, Shukla has emerged as a socially responsible citizen and community leader. She actively works to bring school dropout children back into the education system, campaigns against child marriage, and supports efforts to prevent child labour.
