A 13-year-old minor girl allegedly abducted from North Tripura’s Churaibari area was rescued by police after an intensive search operation. Tension gripped the locality as residents demanded the arrest of the absconding accused, a thorough investigation into alleged trafficking links, and action against those accused of involvement.

Tension prevailed in the Churaibari region of North Tripura district after a 13-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted from her village, was rescued by police following a search operation. Authorities have launched an extensive manhunt to apprehend the prime accused, who remains absconding.

According to a police complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the minor girl was allegedly taken away on Thursday evening from the Khadimpara area under East Fulbari Gram Panchayat. The complaint named 22-year-old Sharif Uddin as the principal accused in the case.

Following the filing of the complaint, police immediately initiated search operations across several locations. Acting on leads gathered during the investigation, law enforcement personnel successfully rescued the minor girl from the Tongchhara area on Friday night.

The rescue, however, did little to ease public anger. On Saturday, a large number of local residents gathered outside the Churaibari Police Station, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Protesters also alleged the involvement of other individuals in the case and urged authorities to leave no angle unexplored.

Family members of the victim claimed that a local Panchayat member, identified as Ayaz Ali, had links with the prime accused and allegedly attempted to influence them to withdraw the complaint before the girl was rescued. They further alleged that the accused had been employed at a stone crusher unit reportedly owned by the Panchayat member. These allegations are currently part of the ongoing investigation.

A senior police official confirmed that the minor has undergone a medical examination and that a case has been registered under relevant legal provisions. The official stated that police teams conducted raids at the residence of the accused on Friday night, but he managed to evade arrest. Search operations are continuing in multiple locations.

Meanwhile, several residents expressed concerns over reports of previous cases involving missing minor girls in the area. Some locals have urged authorities to investigate whether organised criminal or human trafficking networks may be operating in the region. They also called for enhanced security measures and stronger vigilance to protect vulnerable children.

Police have assured the public that all allegations, including possible criminal links and the circumstances surrounding the abduction, will be thoroughly investigated. Authorities have appealed for calm and stated that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty after the completion of the investigation.
