CPI(M) staged a protest rally in Dharmanagar demanding improvement of North Tripura District Hospital, action over the alleged NEET-2026 paper leak, stronger labour rights, price control on essentials, and better public welfare measures across the state.
Fresh concerns over healthcare facilities and public welfare issues echoed across Dharmanagar on Thursday as the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) organized a protest rally demanding immediate improvement of services at the North Tripura District Hospital along with action on several national and state-level issues.
The rally witnessed participation from a large number of Left activists, supporters and party leaders who marched through different parts of the town raising slogans against policies of both the Central and State governments. Protesters highlighted a range of concerns including the alleged NEET-2026 question paper leak, increasing prices of essential commodities, labour rights, and the deteriorating condition of healthcare services in North Tripura.
During the demonstration, party leaders demanded strict punishment for individuals allegedly linked to the NEET-2026 paper leak controversy. The protesters also called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging failure to ensure transparency and fairness in the education system. The rally further stressed the need for a corruption-free examination and education process across the country.
Apart from education-related concerns, the CPI(M) leaders strongly raised labour and employment issues. They demanded restoration and strengthening of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act scheme with provisions for 200 days of guaranteed work annually and a daily wage of Rs 600 for workers. Protesters also urged authorities to take immediate steps to control the soaring prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas and other daily essentials that continue to impact common people.
Healthcare conditions at the North Tripura District Hospital became one of the central issues of the protest. Left leaders and supporters alleged that the hospital environment had deteriorated significantly and raised concerns over alleged anti-social activities within the hospital premises. Demonstrators demanded better sanitation, improved healthcare infrastructure, and adequate deployment of doctors, nurses and healthcare staff to ensure quality treatment for patients.
The protesters also called for fair wages and improved working conditions for contractual sanitation workers engaged at the hospital. According to the rally participants, healthcare services in the district require urgent intervention to restore public confidence and ensure proper medical support for residents.
