West Tripura DM Dr Vishal Kumar announced the Census houselisting phase will begin from August 1 with no overlap expected with the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Review. Officials assured smooth coordination, data confidentiality, and public participation for effective governance and welfare planning.

The first phase of the nationwide census exercise, focused on houselisting and household data collection, is set to begin from August 1 and continue throughout the month, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar announced on Friday. The administration has clarified that the census activities will not overlap with the Special Intensive Review (SIR) being conducted by the Election Commission of India.

Speaking to media persons after a district-level training session held at the Sonar Tori State Guest House in Agartala, Dr Kumar stated that both the census and SIR exercises follow separate timelines and operational frameworks. He assured that adequate planning has been undertaken to avoid any administrative collision between the two important national exercises.

According to the District Magistrate, the major work related to individual enumeration under the second phase of the census will commence in February next year and is expected to be completed by March 2027. On the other hand, the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Review process is likely to conclude within October or November this year.

“We have a sufficient gap between both the exercises. The SIR will be completed within October or November while the major work related to the census will begin in February next year when individual enumeration starts,” Dr Kumar said while addressing reporters.

He described the census as a significant administrative exercise that would play a major role in policy formulation and welfare planning by the government. Emphasising the importance of public participation, Dr Kumar urged citizens to voluntarily cooperate with officials and provide accurate information during the survey process.

“This is a big exercise which will definitely help the government in policy making and implementing welfare measures for the people. I request all citizens to voluntarily share their information. Personal details of every individual will remain confidential, and only statistical data will be used for public policy, research, and development activities,” he said.

The District Magistrate further informed that extensive training sessions for charge officers, enumerators, and supervisors have already been conducted in coordination with the Directorate of Census. Master trainers have also been appointed to provide guidance and technical support at various levels of implementation.

In addition to the physical enumeration process, the administration will also offer a self-enumeration facility through dedicated mobile applications and online portals. Dr Kumar said adult heads of families would be able to submit census-related information digitally between July 17 and July 31.

“A detailed instructional video regarding self-enumeration is available on the PIB platform. Citizens can use the mobile application and portal to complete the process conveniently before the physical survey begins,” he added.

Officials also confirmed that the questionnaire for the household survey will be finalised within July. The administration believes that a combination of trained manpower, digital tools, and phased scheduling will help ensure smooth execution of the census operation across the district.

The census exercise is expected to generate critical demographic and socio-economic data that will support future governance strategies, infrastructure planning, and targeted welfare initiatives throughout the state and country.
