MP CM Mohan Yadav reduced his cavalcade size following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fuel-saving appeal. The state government also urged ministers, BJP leaders, and citizens to adopt austerity measures, public transport, electric vehicles, and lower fuel consumption practices nationwide.
A move aimed at promoting fuel conservation and administrative austerity was announced by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption amid global uncertainty and rising economic concerns.
The Chief Minister declared that his official cavalcade would operate with the minimum number of vehicles until further notice. He also announced that vehicle rallies during his official tours would no longer be permitted. The decision is being viewed as a direct response to the Prime Minister’s recent call for austerity measures and responsible energy consumption.
In a message shared on X, Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh remained committed to reducing petrol and diesel usage in the national interest. He further said that all ministers in the state government would also be expected to use the minimum number of vehicles while travelling for official work.
The Chief Minister appealed to Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and party workers to follow the same approach by avoiding unnecessary vehicle usage and large political convoys. He emphasised that simplicity and restraint should become part of public and political life during the current global economic situation.
Yadav also announced that newly appointed chairpersons and officials in corporations and boards would assume office in a simple manner without extravagant displays or large rallies. The directive appeared to signal the government’s intent to discourage political showmanship involving massive convoys and fuel-intensive celebrations.
The announcement came shortly after criticism emerged over the arrival of newly appointed Textbook Corporation Chairman Saubhagya Singh Thakur, who reportedly travelled from Ujjain with a convoy involving more than 200 vehicles. The incident triggered debate on social media and among political observers, as it appeared inconsistent with the fuel-saving message promoted by both the Prime Minister and the state government.
Political analysts believe the latest directive from the Chief Minister places pressure on ministers, party leaders, and government officials to adopt more restrained travel practices and avoid extravagant political displays.
During a Cabinet meeting held on Monday, Yadav referred to several suggestions made by Prime Minister Modi regarding self-reliance and resource conservation. According to the Chief Minister, farmers were encouraged to shift from diesel-powered pumps to solar-powered alternatives. They were also advised to adopt natural farming practices to reduce dependence on imported fertilisers.
The Chief Minister further highlighted several recommendations intended for citizens across the country. These included greater use of railway freight services instead of road transportation, increased dependence on public transport and electric vehicles, and reducing non-essential fuel consumption.

Citizens were also encouraged to postpone foreign travel for at least one year and instead visit domestic tourist destinations. In addition, people were advised to reduce household edible oil consumption and avoid purchasing gold for a year as part of broader efforts to support the national economy and conserve resources.
The latest measures indicate that the Madhya Pradesh government is attempting to align administrative practices with the Centre’s broader message of economic caution, sustainability, and responsible public spending during a period of international uncertainty.
