Sensex Falls 252 Points to 77,018; Nifty Slips 87 Points to 24,033

Benchmark domestic equity indices ended with moderate losses on Tuesday. The Sensex dropped 252 points to close at 77,018, while the Nifty dipped 87 points to settle at 24,033. However, the broader market on the National Stock Exchange managed to close with gains. The Midcap 100 rose nearly 0.2 per cent, and the Smallcap 100 added almost 0.3 per cent.
In the forex market today, the rupee depreciated by 21 paise to trade at 95 rupees and 29 paise against the US dollar.
In the global crude oil market, Brent Crude was trading over 1.3 per cent down at 112 US dollars and 91 cents per barrel, while WTI Crude was also trading 2.1 per cent down at 104 US dollars 15 cents per barrel in intra-day trade.
In the Indian bullion market, 24-Carat gold was trading up at 1,50,060 rupees per 10 grams, while silver was also trading up at 2,45,940 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
