A strong push for timely execution and quality delivery of welfare projects took center stage in Tripura’s urban governance review on Saturday, as Chief Minister Manik Saha called for stricter monitoring and faster implementation across key infrastructure initiatives.

During a high-level meeting held at the TIFT War Room in Agartala, the Chief Minister underscored the urgency of completing urban development works within stipulated deadlines while maintaining durability and long-term usability. He highlighted that efficient delivery of civic services is fundamental to ensuring planned urban growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Senior officials, including Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, and Finance Secretary Apurba Roy, attended the review session along with representatives from urban local bodies. Department-wise updates on ongoing projects were presented, outlining progress and identifying areas requiring immediate attention.

The Chief Minister directed authorities to accelerate projects under the Tripura Urban Development Authority (TUDA), particularly emphasizing the need to complete the work at Junction Gate in Agartala without delay. He also stressed expediting the under-construction Lighthouse project near the Akhaura border, which is expected to contribute to both infrastructure development and regional connectivity.

Healthcare infrastructure was another major focus of the meeting. The Chief Minister instructed officials to prioritize the completion of the City Hospital project, aiming to strengthen urban healthcare services. Additionally, he called for the rapid installation of CCTV cameras across urban areas to enhance security measures and support modernization efforts.

Addressing pedestrian safety, the Chief Minister directed the installation of railings along footpaths to reduce accidents and ensure safer mobility for citizens. He also highlighted the significance of the Gomati riverfront development project in Udaipur, urging regular maintenance of pump houses and the construction of new ones where required to support urban infrastructure.

Sanitation and cleanliness remained key priorities, with a renewed focus on continuing work under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The Chief Minister stressed uninterrupted implementation, alongside improving door-to-door garbage collection systems and strengthening solid waste management practices.

In a positive development, he expressed satisfaction over the near completion of Pink Toilets in 20 urban areas across the state, aimed at improving sanitation facilities, particularly for women. He also directed efforts to preserve the city’s heritage by developing the Vivekananda Gymnasium at Gangail Road and constructing an additional concrete ghat at a pond in Shantipara.

Environmental sustainability featured prominently in the discussions. The Chief Minister suggested that the Agartala Municipal Corporation explore innovative solutions for the storage and recycling of idols after festivals, a step that could significantly reduce environmental impact.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister stated that timely completion of welfare-oriented projects, coupled with high standards of quality, would enhance administrative accountability and public trust. He added that the administration is focused on building a modern, well-planned Tripura through robust infrastructure and improved civic services across Agartala and other urban centers.
