Tripura’s Mata Tripura Sundari Temple is preparing for its annual Deepavali festival and fair, expecting around 10 lakh visitors. The celebrations will feature a drone show, cultural programmes, Mangal Aarti and special traffic restrictions to manage crowds.

Preparations are underway for the annual Deepavali festival and fair at the historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Matabari, Udaipur, with the Gomati district administration expecting around 10 lakh devotees and visitors this year. The celebrations will feature special religious rituals, cultural programmes, decorative lighting and an attractive drone show.

Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather said the administration was taking comprehensive measures to ensure the smooth and peaceful organisation of the festival, considering the anticipated large gathering. Priests arriving from Varanasi will perform the traditional Mangal Aarti, which is expected to be one of the major religious attractions of the celebrations.

The District Magistrate recently visited the temple complex and adjoining areas to review preparations and assess the readiness of various government departments. She was accompanied by Matabari Rural Development Block BDO Arijit Pal, Gomati Zilla Parishad Deputy Sabhadhipati Sujan Sen and officials from different line departments.

During the inspection, the officials reviewed arrangements for crowd management and the overall preparedness of the temple and fair premises. The administration is focusing on ensuring that devotees can participate in the religious celebrations safely and conveniently.

The Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, situated at Matabari in Udaipur, is among Tripura’s most prominent religious destinations. The annual Deepavali festival attracts thousands of devotees from different parts of the state and neighbouring regions.

Traffic Restrictions Announced for Deepavali Fair

Meanwhile, the Gomati district police have announced special traffic restrictions in Udaipur to regulate the movement of vehicles and manage the expected rush during the Deepavali fair.

According to the traffic notification, the restrictions will remain effective from 12 noon on November 8 until 8 am on November 11, 2026.

Regular passenger vehicles arriving from Agartala will be allowed to travel up to Rajarbag Motor Stand and return towards Agartala. However, they will not be permitted to proceed towards Ramesh Chowmuhani. Private vehicles and reserved buses arriving from Agartala will have to drop passengers at Rajarbag Motor Stand and park at the KBI School ground.

If parking space at Rajarbag is insufficient, vehicles will be directed through Ramesh Chowmuhani to the designated KBI School ground.

Special arrangements have also been made for visitors arriving from Melaghar, Dhanpur and Kakraban-Hulashmura. Their vehicles will be allowed to use the KBI School ground for parking. Visitors travelling from Sabroom, Belonia and Santirbazar will be dropped near Chandrapur Colony School, while their vehicles will be parked at the Chandrapur School ground.

Vehicles carrying visitors from Amarpur, Katanbari and Ampi will be allowed to park at the Tripura Sundari School ground.

The administration has also designated specific routes for vehicles travelling towards Agartala and southern Tripura districts to minimise congestion around Matabari. Vehicles from the southern districts heading towards Agartala will be routed through Geravya Bazar, Godamura, Manikya Pushkarini, Jamjuri Forest Beat Office, Ramesh Chowmuhani and Rajarbag.

Vehicles travelling from Agartala towards southern Tripura will use Ramesh Chowmuhani, Jamjuri, Murapara, Jayantibazar and Chandrapur.

Emergency Routes and Parking Arrangements

An emergency route connecting Ramesh Chowmuhani through Rajdharnagar Railway Bridge and Udaipur Railway Station to the fair parking area has also been designated. Only authorised VIP, VVIP and pass-holding vehicles will be permitted to use this route during the restriction period.

VIP and VVIP vehicles will be provided parking facilities at the Matabari Cooperative Ground and Matabari Higher Secondary School ground. Other authorised vehicles carrying devotees will drop passengers near the Matabari Shopping Complex and park in the designated area in front of the railway station.

Emergency vehicles belonging to hospitals, fire services, electricity departments and police will be allowed to use the emergency route.

The administration has further restricted heavy vehicle movement on important roads. No goods vehicles will be permitted to load or unload on Udaipur Central Road and New Town Road after 12 noon during the restriction period. Vehicles will also be prohibited from using the NH-6 stretch between Ramesh Chowmuhani and Udaipur, as specified in the notification.

Volunteers from different organisations have been requested to remain stationed at key locations, including Brahmabari, Ramesh Chowmuhani, Rajarbag, Subhash Bridge, Chandrapur Colony School, Chandrasagar Drop Gate and Tripura Sundari School Drop Gate.

With nearly 10 lakh visitors expected, the district administration is coordinating with police and other departments to ensure effective crowd control, smooth traffic movement and emergency preparedness.

The combination of religious traditions, cultural performances, decorative illumination and modern attractions such as the drone show is expected to make this year’s Deepavali festival an important religious and tourism event for Tripura.
