India has successfully met its all-time highest peak electricity demand of over 256 gigawatts on the 25th of April. The Ministry of Power highlighted that the demand has been met while simultaneously maintaining electricity exports to the neighbouring countries. The Ministry said that this milestone surpassed the previous all-time high of 250 gigawatts recorded in May 2024. The Ministry highlighted that the requirement was met through a diverse portfolio of generation sources, including thermal, hydro, nuclear, and renewable energy, ensuring reliability and grid stability. Renewable energy, particularly solar, made a significant contribution, complemented by hydro and other flexible resources during peak conditions.
