Tripura CM Manik Saha visits Khowai, assures security for violence-affected families, vows strict action against culprits, and strengthens law and order measures amid post-TTAADC election unrest, displacement, and rising concerns over safety and rehabilitation.

Amid growing concerns over recent unrest, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha visited Tripura’s Khowai district to assess the ground situation and reassure families affected by violence. The visit comes in the wake of multiple incidents involving arson, physical assaults, and intimidation reported shortly after the declaration of the TTAADC election on April 17.

Interacting directly with displaced residents, the Chief Minister emphasized that maintaining law and order remains the government’s top priority. He assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible for spreading violence and destabilizing communities. “No one will be spared,” he reiterated, signaling a zero-tolerance stance.

The Chief Minister described the recent wave of violence as deeply concerning, comparing it to a persistent disease that requires strong and immediate intervention. He noted that such incidents are not unprecedented in the state’s history but stressed that the current administration is committed to eliminating the cycle of unrest through decisive measures.

During his visit, Dr. Saha inspected relief camps, including the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Camp, where nearly 300 displaced tribal residents have taken shelter. He listened to their grievances, many of whom reported loss of property, repeated attacks on homes, and threats preventing them from returning to their villages. In another location, around 250 individuals were found residing in a temporary shelter set up at a political party office.

Addressing these concerns, the Chief Minister assured that both the government and the ruling party would extend full support for rehabilitation. Financial assistance has already been announced, and additional aid will be provided to ensure that affected families can rebuild their lives. Security arrangements are also being strengthened to prevent further incidents.

Dr. Saha revealed that he had been closely monitoring the situation even while traveling outside the state for official commitments. Prior to his departure on April 18, a high-level meeting involving key leaders had been convened to assess the emerging situation across West, South, and Khowai districts. A dedicated committee was formed to oversee developments and coordinate response measures.

Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, he stated that restoring peace is a “mission” for the administration. He announced that a crucial meeting would be held later in the day with top officials, including the Director General of Police and the Chief Secretary, to review the law and order scenario and outline further action.

Law enforcement agencies have already initiated operations to identify and apprehend those involved in the violence. Several arrests have been made, and the Chief Minister confirmed that more individuals would be brought to justice in the coming days. He also addressed reports of extortion, where some displaced persons were allegedly asked to pay money to return home, stating that such acts would be dealt with strictly.

Senior officials, including Director General of Police Anurag, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, BJP General Secretary, and MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit, underlining the government’s coordinated approach to tackling the crisis.

The administration’s immediate focus remains on restoring normalcy, ensuring the safe return of displaced families, and preventing further escalation. With a combination of security measures, financial support, and administrative oversight, the government aims to bring stability back to the affected regions.
