BJP deploys senior leaders in Tripura ahead of crucial TTAADC polls, signaling strong election strategy, candidate finalization, and possible post-poll alliances as over 9.5 lakh voters prepare for April 12 voting.

With the high-stakes elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) fast approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its organizational efforts by deploying senior national-level leaders to the state.

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and party Secretary Vinod Sonkar arrived in Tripura on Friday, marking a significant push by the party to consolidate its electoral strategy ahead of the April 12 polls.

According to party sources, both leaders are scheduled to conduct a crucial workshop with state-level BJP leaders at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel. The workshop is expected to focus on a wide range of political and organizational issues, including booth-level management, campaign strategy, and voter outreach mechanisms.

Vinod Sonkar’s presence in the state holds particular importance given his previous role as the BJP’s central observer for Tripura. During a politically turbulent phase for the party in the state, Sonkar played a key role in managing internal affairs. Notably, he was actively involved during the dramatic leadership transition that led to the appointment of Manik Saha as Chief Minister, replacing the earlier leadership.

Political observers suggest that Sonkar’s return comes at a time when the BJP seeks to maintain stability and unity within its ranks, especially in the tribal council areas where electoral competition is expected to be intense.

His arrival also gains added relevance as the current central observer, Rajdeep Roy, has been nominated as a BJP candidate from Silchar in the upcoming assembly elections. With Roy heavily engaged in campaigning in his home constituency, the party has entrusted Sonkar with overseeing preparations in Tripura.

Sources indicate that following the workshop, a high-level strategy meeting will be held to finalize the BJP’s list of candidates for the TTAADC elections. The selection process is expected to be rigorous, taking into account grassroots feedback and electoral viability.

The BJP is reportedly maintaining its stance of contesting the elections independently, without entering into any pre-poll alliance. However, the possibility of a post-poll alliance—particularly with regional force Tipra Motha—has not been completely ruled out by either side.

The TTAADC elections are scheduled to be held on April 12, with counting slated for April 17. More than 9.5 lakh voters are expected to participate in the electoral process, making it a crucial democratic exercise that could significantly influence the political landscape of Tripura.
