Tripura prepares for a grand welcome as Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan begins a two-day visit. Tight security, traffic advisories, and major events including Tripura University’s 14th convocation and interaction with SHG women entrepreneurs highlight the visit.
The capital city of Agartala is preparing to extend a grand and enthusiastic welcome to the Vice-President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, who will arrive on a two-day official visit beginning Saturday. The high-profile visit has prompted elaborate security arrangements, traffic advisories, and a series of official engagements across the city.
According to official sources, the Vice-President will land at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport at around 2:10 pm on Saturday. He will be warmly received by Manik Saha along with senior government officials and other distinguished dignitaries. The arrival ceremony is expected to showcase traditional hospitality and highlight the significance of the Vice-President’s visit to the northeastern state.
Later in the evening, the Vice-President will attend a formal state dinner at Lok Bhavan, where he will interact with key government representatives and officials. The event will serve as an important platform for strengthening coordination between the state leadership and the central government.
A major highlight of the Vice-President’s itinerary will be his participation in the 14th convocation ceremony of Tripura University scheduled for March 8. During the convocation, he is expected to address graduating students, faculty members, and academic leaders, emphasizing the importance of education, innovation, and youth leadership in national development.
Following the convocation ceremony, the Vice-President will visit the Self-Help Group (SHG) stalls at the International Trade and Fair Centre. There, he will interact with women entrepreneurs and members of various self-help groups, including the widely recognized “Lakhpati Didis,” who represent successful rural women entrepreneurs benefiting from government development programs. The interaction is expected to highlight the role of women-led economic initiatives in promoting grassroots development and financial independence.
In preparation for the visit, the district administration has implemented comprehensive security measures across key areas of the city. The office of the District Magistrate of West Tripura has also issued traffic advisories to ensure smooth movement during the Vice-President’s travel.
As per the advisory, restrictions will be imposed on the movement of heavy vehicles—including buses, brick carriers, cement carriers, rod carriers, bamboo carriers, and other large transport vehicles—along the stretch between Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport and Uttam Bhakta Chowmuhani at Sekerkote. However, emergency vehicles will remain exempt from these restrictions.
To minimize inconvenience for the public, several alternative routes have been announced. Commuters have been advised to travel through routes such as Narayanpur–Narsingarh–Ramnagar–Gandhigram Bazar–Salbagan–Rubber Board–Chanmari, as well as GB–Indranagar–Dhaleswar–Math Chowmuhani–Jogendranagar–Bypass. Other alternative routes include A.D. Nagar–Battala–Fire Service–Ker Chowmuhani–Sankar Chowmuhani–Barjala–Mailakhola via Bharat Ratna Club to the airport, and the Sekerkote Tea Garden–Kanchanmala–Srinagar–Amtali bypass corridor.

Authorities have also urged air passengers to reach the airport at least three hours before their scheduled flights and to carry valid tickets or boarding passes to avoid unnecessary delays due to security checks and traffic congestion.
