Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha says New India is possible only with New Tripura, highlighting engineers’ role in development projects worth Rs 1,300 crore, skill enhancement, innovation, and timely implementation at ASSET’s sixth biennial conference in Agartala.
The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, on Thursday asserted that the vision of a “New India” can only be realized through the transformation of states like Tripura, emphasizing that engineers are central to this mission. He made the remarks while inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp organized on the occasion of the sixth biennial conference of the Association of Service Engineers of Tripura (ASSET) at Sukanta Academy Auditorium in Agartala.
Addressing engineers, public representatives, and voluntary blood donors at the event, Dr. Saha said engineers are vital partners in the state’s overall development. He noted that beyond fulfilling their official responsibilities with dedication, engineers are actively engaged in social initiatives that strengthen community bonds and promote humanitarian values.
“There is no religion in work. There is no party in work. And that is how it should be,” Dr. Saha said, underlining the importance of professionalism and unity in public service. According to him, trust and collective progress are built through strong organizational culture and transparent governance.
Priority to Performance Over Politics
The Chief Minister criticized previous administrative practices, stating that in the past, large-scale employee transfer lists were allegedly prepared based on selective considerations rather than merit and public interest. “That is why the state had not developed so far,” he said, adding that his government has shifted focus toward performance-driven governance.

He highlighted that within a year, projects worth approximately Rs 1,300 crore have been either inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid across the state. These projects span multiple sectors, reflecting a broader push toward infrastructure expansion and technological modernization.
Dr. Saha stressed that the successful implementation of these initiatives depends heavily on engineers, as technology now forms the backbone of governance and public service delivery. “Everything depends on technology now. Engineers will have to emphasize more on state-of-the-art technology,” he said.
Engineers at the Core of Key National Missions
Citing flagship schemes and missions, Dr. Saha said that engineers are indispensable to programs such as the Jal Jeevan Mission, PM Suryaghar initiative, National Hydrology Mission, PRASAD Project, and road construction works.
He stated that timely execution of projects is crucial and urged engineers to ensure that every assignment is completed within stipulated deadlines. “Do such work that people remember for the rest of their lives,” he advised, calling upon engineers to build durable and impactful infrastructure.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for continuous skill enhancement and innovative thinking among engineers. He assured that the state government would extend necessary support for capacity building, training, and adoption of advanced technologies.
“Innovation must be encouraged. Skill development must be prioritized. Only then can we compete at national and global levels,” he added.
Linking New Tripura to New India
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated emphasis on building a “New India,” Dr. Saha said that the transformation of Tripura is essential for contributing to the national vision.
“It will be possible to build New India only if there is a New Tripura,” he said. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that engineers stand at the forefront of this transformation and described them as “craftsmen of building the country and architects of the future.”
The event also underscored the humanitarian aspect of professional organizations. The voluntary blood donation camp witnessed enthusiastic participation, with speakers highlighting that a single unit of blood can save a life.
Among the distinguished guests present were Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, ASSET General Secretary Sona Ranjan Debbarma, Organizing Committee Chairman Laxman Sarkar, and other members and leaders of the engineers’ association.
Rajib Bhattacharya lauded the humanitarian initiative, encouraging donors and expressing gratitude for their contribution to society. He said such efforts reflect the social responsibility of professionals and reinforce the spirit of collective welfare.
A Message of Professionalism and Humanity
The conference and blood donation camp together conveyed a dual message — strengthening infrastructure and strengthening humanity. As Tripura accelerates development projects across sectors, the state government is placing significant hope on its technical workforce to deliver quality results within timelines.
