NIT Agartala will host a National Seminar on Bharatiya Bhasha Parivar on January 12, 2026, focusing on India’s linguistic diversity, cultural unity, and language preservation, with eminent scholars and nationwide academic participation.
The Department of Management, Humanities and Social Sciences (MHSS) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala is set to organize a One-Day National Seminar on “Bharatiya Bhasha Parivar,” highlighting India’s rich linguistic heritage and cultural unity. The seminar is sponsored by the Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, reflecting national efforts to promote Indian languages and indigenous knowledge systems.
The inaugural session of the seminar will be held on January 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the Virtual Classroom of NIT Agartala. The academic event aims to bring together linguists, scholars, educators, and students from across the country to engage in meaningful dialogue on linguistic diversity, language families, and the role of Indian languages in national integration.
The inauguration will be graced by several eminent academicians and language experts. Distinguished speakers include Prof. Niladri Sekhar Dash from the Linguistics Research Unit, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata; Prof. Shailendra Kumar Singh from the Department of Linguistics, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong; Dr. Yumnam Oken Singh from the Department of Basic Science and Humanities, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, Central Agricultural University, Imphal; and Dr. Niranjan Uppoor from the Department of Linguistics and Tribal Languages, Tripura University. Their presence is expected to add significant academic depth to the discussions.
The seminar is designed to promote awareness of India’s linguistic unification while preserving its vast cultural and language diversity. Experts will deliberate on the evolution of Indian language families, the importance of mother tongues, and strategies for safeguarding endangered and tribal languages. The discussions will also focus on how linguistic research contributes to cultural identity and social harmony.
Several eminent speakers from reputed institutions, including various National Institutes of Technology and leading universities, will deliver lectures during the seminar. Their presentations are expected to provide interdisciplinary perspectives, combining linguistics, cultural studies, education, and policy-oriented insights.
Students, research scholars, faculty members, and industry professionals from Tripura and other parts of India have been invited to participate in the seminar. The event offers a valuable platform for academic exchange, networking, and intellectual engagement, especially for young researchers interested in linguistics and humanities.

Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Patra, Director of NIT Agartala, will serve as the Chief Patron of the seminar. Prof. (Dr.) T. K. Misra, Dean (Research and Consultancy), and Prof. (Dr.) Debasis Neogi, Dean (Faculty Welfare), are the Patrons of the programme. The seminar is being locally coordinated by Dr. Gyanabati Khuraijam, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of MHSS, NIT Agartala, who is also the Chairperson of the event.
