NABARD launches a piggery cluster at Udaipur in Tripura’s Gomati district to boost tribal livelihoods. Implemented by BAPCL, the project will benefit 70 farmers under the One Village, One Cluster initiative.
NABARD-backed piggery cluster project was formally launched at Udaipur in Gomati district under the “One Village, One Cluster” initiative. The project, implemented by the Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited (BAPCL), is expected to directly benefit at least 70 tribal farmers by promoting organized livestock farming and sustainable income generation.
Official sources said the cluster-based piggery initiative is part of a broader strategy by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to strengthen rural economies through collective farming models. The project aims to enhance productivity, ensure better market access, and create long-term livelihood opportunities for small and marginal farmers in the district.
The initiative was implemented following a suggestion made by the Governor of Tripura to NABARD, recommending execution through BAPCL. The objective was to develop a structured, farmer-centric livestock ecosystem that supports income diversification and resilience among tribal communities.
The Piggery Cluster Based Project was formally inaugurated at Barabari Biswa Chandra Para JB School, Atharovola, Killa, in Gomati district, in the presence of senior officials, elected representatives, and beneficiaries. The programme began with the registration of selected farmers, followed by a formal inaugural session. Dignitaries were felicitated with traditional Uttariya, and the project was ceremonially launched with the lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the beginning of a community-driven development effort.
Welcoming the gathering, Sudip Majumder, Chairman and Managing Director of BAPCL, highlighted the importance of cluster-based livestock development in enhancing farmers’ income. He said the piggery cluster would help farmers access quality inputs, veterinary support, and organized marketing channels. Majumder reaffirmed BAPCL’s commitment to promoting sustainable, market-linked, and farmer-centric livelihood models across rural Tripura.
Debal Debroy, Sabhadhipati of Gomati Zilla Parishad, appreciated the initiative and emphasized the role of local self-governance institutions in strengthening farmer-led development. He stated that convergence between financial institutions, producer companies, and local bodies is essential for inclusive rural growth.
Anil S. Kotmire, General Manager of NABARD’s Regional Office, underlined the importance of organized piggery clusters in improving productivity and reducing risks for farmers. He noted that cluster-based approaches help strengthen value chains, improve access to credit, and enhance farmers’ resilience against market fluctuations.
Other dignitaries, including Bagan Hari Molsom, Chairman of BAC Killa; Khokan Dey, District Development Manager, NABARD; Debabrata Sarkar, Lead District Manager, Gomati; and Billo Debbarma, Deputy Director of ARDD, shared insights on the project’s long-term impact. They assured continued institutional, financial, and technical support to ensure the success of the piggery cluster.
