A late-night burglary in Udaipur sparks panic as criminals steal gold and cash worth lakhs. Residents blame ineffective night police patrols and demand urgent security upgrades amid rising theft incidents across the town.

Udaipur town is witnessing a growing sense of fear and insecurity after a daring late-night burglary exposed serious gaps in night-time policing. The latest incident, reported from the Jail Road area under Ward No. 22, has intensified public anger amid allegations of ineffective police patrols despite repeated thefts across the town.

According to police sources, burglars made away with gold ornaments worth approximately Rs 8.50 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 1 lakh after breaking into a residential house late at night. The stolen ornaments were reportedly accumulated over several years and were meant for the upcoming marriage of the house owner’s daughter, adding emotional distress to the financial loss suffered by the family.

The victim, Bimal Acharya, informed the police that he had left his residence on Friday afternoon along with his family to attend a social function at his sister’s house in Bishramganj. Taking advantage of the family’s absence, the burglars allegedly targeted the house during the night hours when the locality was largely silent and unguarded.

The miscreants reportedly broke open the rear door of the kitchen to gain entry. Once inside, they ransacked multiple rooms, forcibly opened almirahs, and fled with valuables without drawing attention. The burglary came to light on Saturday morning when Acharya’s nephew, Sourav Acharya, visited the house to check on it. He noticed the back door of the kitchen wide open and found the rooms in complete disarray.

Realizing that a theft had taken place, he immediately alerted the family. Acharya rushed back from Bishramganj and, after assessing the losses, lodged a written complaint with the Radha Kishorepur police station. Police officials later reached the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection, and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The burglary has sparked widespread concern among residents, who allege that the town has been witnessing a series of thefts in recent months. Locals claim that night-time police patrolling is either irregular or virtually absent, creating favorable conditions for criminals to operate freely.

Residents further alleged that although a special 12-member police team was reportedly formed under the direction of the district superintendent of police to curb rising crimes, the presence of these personnel during night hours is rarely visible on the ground. This, they claim, has emboldened burglars and other anti-social elements.

With repeated incidents of theft and burglary, serious questions are now being raised about the preparedness and accountability of law enforcement agencies. Residents across Udaipur town have demanded immediate strengthening of security measures, regular and visible night patrols, and strict action against those responsible to restore public confidence and ensure safety.
