Tripura CM Manik Saha highlights women’s vital role in building Atmanirbhar Bharat, stressing economic empowerment, rural development, and self-reliance. Speaking at a Mahila Morcha event, he emphasizes health progress, local tourism, and government schemes supporting women’s advancement.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday underscored the pivotal role of women in shaping the vision of Atmanirbhar Tripura and Atmanirbhar Bharat, asserting that women’s empowerment remains one of the core priorities of the state government. He made the remarks while addressing a large gathering at a women’s conference organised by the Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), at the Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that women’s participation in the nation’s economic and social progress is not merely desirable but essential for building a strong, self-reliant India. “Women are an important part of society. Without their advancement, overall progress is not possible. Women’s empowerment has been placed at the forefront of our governance agenda,” he stated.

Dr. Saha highlighted that the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, a national mission initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2020, continues to remain a guiding framework for long-term development. The renewed phase of the programme, relaunched in September this year and set to continue until December, aims to strengthen India’s economic resilience, defence capabilities, infrastructure growth, and technological advancement.

He said India learned crucial lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly the need for greater self-reliance across key sectors. “During Covid, it became clear that if we are not self-reliant, no one will come forward to help. That is why the Prime Minister repeatedly emphasises ‘Vocal for Local’. Tripura too is moving forward with the slogan ‘Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar Ghar Swadeshi’ to promote local industries,” the Chief Minister said.

Atmanirbhar Tripura as a foundation for Atmanirbhar Bharat

Urging citizens to contribute actively to building a self-reliant state, Dr. Saha stressed that only when every state becomes strong and self-sustaining can India truly become Atmanirbhar. He pointed out that the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, aimed at making India a developed nation by the 100th year of independence, requires each state to accelerate its development efforts.

Highlighting Tripura’s ongoing progress in the health sector, the Chief Minister referred to flagship schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, which have helped expand healthcare accessibility for thousands of families. “Our health system is improving gradually. Many people prefer private hospitals, but district and state hospitals are also capable of providing good treatment,” he added.

Dr. Saha also encouraged residents to promote self-reliance by supporting local tourism. “Many people book tickets for Kashmir, Bangalore, Sikkim and other places, which leads to money flowing out of our state. Tripura has several beautiful tourist destinations. When we travel within our state, our money stays here and strengthens our economy,” he said.

Women at the forefront of India’s socio-economic transformation

The Chief Minister noted that women constitute nearly half of the country’s population and are increasingly taking on leadership roles that contribute to national development. “Women are the driving force of the family, society, and the country. Whether in aviation, railways, medicine, engineering or space missions, women are showcasing excellence everywhere,” he said, adding that women played a significant role in the BJP’s strong performance in the recent Bihar elections.

He urged women to remain aware of the rights, benefits, and welfare schemes introduced by the state and central governments. “The government is working with a firm commitment to ensure the socio-economic development of women, especially those in rural areas. If rural women are not empowered, neither the state nor the nation can progress,” he added.

Dr. Saha highlighted that the Central Government has introduced numerous schemes designed specifically to uplift rural women through financial assistance, skill development, entrepreneurship support, and welfare programmes. The Tripura Government, he assured, is working tirelessly to implement these schemes effectively to ensure meaningful impact at the grassroots level.

The event was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, senior party leaders, elected representatives, and hundreds of women karyakartas from across the Bordowali Mandal. The gathering served as part of the ongoing Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, aimed at strengthening India’s grassroots self-reliance movement.
